A 500ml bottle with a BB of Dec 2013, so it's well out of date. However the label implies that this could keep for 20 years. Bottle no. 41816. Purchased from ALDI around Christmas a few years back and stashed away in a cupboard; comes wrapped in a fancy presentation box.
A: Poured into a tulip pint glass. Bottle conditioned. A very hazy coppery-brown hue with plentiful fine sediment and moderate carbonation. Produces a large head of creamy off-white foam that lasts for a minute or two before reducing to a patchy surface layer.
S: Aroma of sweet, fruity malt with hints of raisins, dried fruit, mild caramel, ale yeast, sherry, faint earthiness, vague stewed leaves and a twinge of marzipan. Slightly oxidised. OK but surprisingly subdued for this style of beer.
T: Tastes of fruity malt with notes of raisins, dried fruit, caramel malt, a hint of barley sugar, ale yeast, mild sherry, vague earthiness, subtle stewed leaves and faint oxidation. Quite sweet, with a delicate bitterness upon swallowing.
M: Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with soft carbonation and good body. Quite chewy. Aftertaste of fruity malt, dried fruit, ale yeast and faint stewed leaves.
O: Sort of decent but not outstanding. I probably held onto this for too long; the 20 year boast seems excessive. Looks OK, while the aroma and flavour are sweet, fruity and malt-driven but stale and fairly underpowered for the style. Nice body. Drinkable but doesn't hold your interest. If they put this out again, drink it sooner rather than later.

Limited to sales at Aldi supermarket and old in a presentation box with plenty of glorious background text.
Poured into my Dartington Ultimate Beer Glass
the nose is treated to ginger cake, candied peel, molasses with hints of dark chocolate and just the slight suggestion of coffee.
Pours a rich brown barley sugar coloured body with decent enough thickish tight white bubbled head that only has two penny sized holes.
The taste is classic barley wine country brandy, treacle and cinnamon mixed with other rich top flavours taken into very much chewy malts and leaves the tongue sparkly bitter little kicks all carried down through a heavily booze laden river.
Tastes much stronger than it is.
Slightly higher carbonated than I thought quite a thick mouthfeel though it does seem to thin in the mouth whilst there which is slightly odd.
Slightly reminiscent of Dobbins Old Soporific.
Heavy going and extremely rich, rewarding and well worth the try
I think it isn't going to age greatly though with no bottle conditioning and not all that higher strength abv IMHO it is going to be at it's best in 5 years not 35 years.
