Interesting beer: pours with a large froth of big bubbles that disparate quickly and leaves no head or bubbles. Dark brown.
Intense smell, dark plum and raisin fruit, possibly some oak. Smells sweet. Great. Caramelized sugar.
First taste is rich sweet molasses and stone fruit and dried fruit, unfortunately it's a bit fleeting, being one of the biggest flaws of this beer. Alcohol is present but not overwhelming. Ends with some vanilla after taste. As it warms up gets better. Cherry, plum, raisin and cognac.
Sweet mouthful, some carbonation, but that also seems to wear off too.
Overall I like it, some flaws but it is growing on me.
Label calls it a barley wine, but I notice RB lists it as a Belgian dark, which explains the intense fruit characteristics. Label otherwise all in German.
Bottle also says 2009, and best by 2019
