Very fine carbonation raises a velvety almost Belgian white head that leaves lacing. The body is pale yellow with a slight haze very appropriate to the unfiltered Zwickl style
The first wiff when opening the bottle was a little funky, but this could not be detected further. The nose is rather complex for such a pale lager with the typical Pilsner malt, but there is also slight clove, smoke and even fruitiness (banana) to it. And then there is another wiff of acetobacter?
Taste is rather dry, complex like the aroma with a certain tartness. gentle herbal bitterness and some Pilsener malt again
medium to light bodied. Smoothness from the suspended yeast.
This is a rustic Zwickl. I am not quite sure if all the parts of this beer like the smoke, banana and tartness are inteded, but if they are, this is a masterpiece in recreating something from the old times before beers were industrially polished. I enjoyed it a lot and will try to find it again, to ascertain that these people are consistently rocking it and not per chance put out this breathtaking Zwickl/Kellerbier
