Brought back from Ipswich, England by my girlfriends parents
Mahogany at its deepest hue, ruby highlights, clear. The beige head reached a summit of a fingers worth, excellent retention, thick rings of lace. Eye-candy. The nose is yeasty with sweet malty influences, butterscotch, some alcohol spice too the potency is humble. The flavors on the palate are dominated by soft marshmallow sweetness, molasses, maltiness, yeasty-bread. The alcohol is most noticeable at the finish, which does a good job of cutting the sweetness. The warmer the beer became a distracting buttery note emerged. The carbonation is relaxed; the body is a touch thin (all things considering). The aftertaste is tacky, sweet tolerable. All in all, Newcastle Star is very drinkable if you can handle the sweetness borderline cloying. Decent enough.
