Twenty years ago, Highland opened its doors in a town otherwise bereft of breweries. Our name anchors us here. "Highland" honors Asheville's Scots Irish heritage. In a final salute to this momentous year, we present the limited edition Weizenbock Ale, the last of four bottled selections in our series of "twenty beers for twenty years."
Pause to take in yeast aromas reminiscent of clove and banana. Roasted rye, wheat, and barley create complexity with a hint of spiciness. Our rendition of this lesser-known style is approachable, beautifully suited to the season, and as always... "Just a wee bit different."

"Pause to take in yeast aromas reminiscent of clove and banana. Roasted rye, wheat and barley create complexity with a hint of spiciness. Our rendition of this lesser-known style is approachable, beautifully suited to the season, and as always..."Just a wee bit different." Brewed in the style of a Weizenbock. Available in 22 oz. bottles and on limited draft. Entry #4 of 4 in the 20th Anniversary Series.
Poured from a 22 oz. bottle to a snifter glass.
(Appearance) Pours a creamy frothed head of a buttery golden white color over a copper-amber body with high clarity and abundant, lively carbonation. Retention is good and lacing is light and spotty. 3.75
(Smell) Wheat and caramel syrup malts, with banana bread and cloves, light spiciness, smooth body. High potency, overall. Simple, but very accessible. 4
(Taste) Smooth toasted bread malts, undertones of caramel syrup and biscuit, light wheat malts and a delicate yeast profile with less banana and clove spice than the aroma suggests. 3.75
(Mouthfeel) Texture is silky, smooth, lightly slick, clean, medium dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a medium frothiness and a moderately crisp finish. Body is medium for the style, medium+ overall. Balance is very slightly yeasty and fruity tart to sweet. Alcohol presence is mild and there are no off characters. 3.5
(Overall) The final entry in the long-winded 20th Anniversary celebration ales from Highland, and arguably the best one, despite seemingly slipping under-the-radar. The simplicity and malt body plays gently in favor for this beer, and despite the flavor profile of the yeast falling short, with little banana and clove flavor to speak of, this beer is very drinkable. 3.75

More bock than Weizen, faint banana taste...not a great representation of the style

Light brown that has clear edges and a huge head. Smell has huge dark fruits, classic wheat and fruit esters. Taste is malt and dark fruit to the max, wheat is an afterthought, spices come to finish but weak. Feel is watery, wheat is too mild, finish is not crisp at all

Pours into a weizen glass a hazed amber/burnt orange with a thick creamy light beige head that settles very slowly.Dark fruits, iron, and banana/clove spiced aromas, not big and in your face but quite complex.A thick feel but it goes down very easy, fruity and somewhat sweet but never getting cloying, some vanilla and banana comes into play as well as some bubble gum.A nice weizenbock, not an alcohol bomb like to many of the American styles, nice job again by Highland.
