Savory, mature and yet with a simplicity that suggests quick consumption. And that's how the beer lures you in. Strong and succulent, Old Mollusk has a friendly fruitiness and a supportively sweet malt foundation that easily masks its power and strength within.
Pouring a deep and bright goldenrod hue, the beer's quick and stubby froth pops to reveal a plethora of honey and booze-soaked fruits. Orchard juiciness links up with bright citrus, earthy stone fruit and a hint of tropical succulence for a nose that's jammy and seductive. Its strong honey taste is woven together with light caramel, cashew and pastry crust for a savory and sweet alignment on the early palate.
With the malty carpet lying on the tongue, the fruit flavors blossom with pear, nectarine and apple ahead of marmalade character of orange, lemon and tangy grapefruit. Pineapple, apricot and mango soon follow and provide hints of white raisin and dates. Even a hint of vinous port decorate the tongue while its spicy warmth carries a spiced rum character deep into taste.
Full and lightly coating the mouth with a sweet and spicy film, the viscous taste is remiss of a rich Vienna lager but with a lighter flavor profile and a soothing vanilla-like texture. Hints of butterscotch and apple pie follow with that long aftertaste that's highly port-like.
