Appearance - The beer, poured from a crowler, was a murky brown color with a bubbly white head.
Smell - The spices, nutmeg and clove, came to the front. They contrasted with some bitterness from the base beer.
Taste - In the initial taste, the nutmeg and clove and definitely turned up. There were also notes of vanilla and a rye-like backbone. It was a completely different beer from the original, almost like dessert. The spices lingered amid the light bitterness of the base beer.
Mouthfeel - The body had some viscosity. Carbonation was still very present.
Overall - I am not prepared to say if this is better than the original. Both are very good in their own ways. Both are excellent examples of the style.

A friend from our neighborhood tasting group journeyed up to the Asheville production brewery and procured a crawler for our tasting group a few weeks ago. Sampled on 12-4-21.
Beer poured darker and boulder with a very nice white head.
Nose was a nice intense toasted malt base with amped up vanilla and cinnamon.
Taste was amped up as well with the toasted malt base being a tad sweeter and smoother compared to the base beer. The vanilla and cinnamon complimented the malt base very nicely and with amped up hopping it was very nicely balanced.
Mouthfeel was medium bodied and smooth.
Overall a really nice version. May need to do a repeat tasting of this next year.

A: Dark, cola colored with about a finger of off-white lacy head.
S: notes of caramel, vanilla, Malta and biscuits.
T: similar flavors to nose, but with a strong boozy taste not present in regular cold mountain. Not as good as the original.
M: freshly tapped, medium bodied, as expected.

Served on draft at East Village Grille, paired my with fish and chips dinner.
This feels a little gimmicky to me. As far as I can tell, it tastes just like the regular Cold Mountain to me, so is it just the alcohol kicked up that's the difference? I guess I would sum it up by saying if your a fan of Cold Mountain but looking for a little more "warmth" on a cold night (and it was really cold the night I had it), this might be a beer for you if you can get your hands on it.
