Poured from a 12 oz. can into a Willi Becher glass.

The beer pours a clear dark brown with ruby highlights when held up to light and a moderate foamy tan head that slowly recedes leaving behind little to no lacing

The nose is fairly light; mildly sweet and bready with notes of coffee and chocolate, a mild roasted malt character, and hints of caramel and toffee.

Like the nose, the taste is somewhat light and understated. Lightly sweet and bready, with some toasty notes, and just a hint of coffee. Medium/light boded and moderately carbonated

Overall, a nice beer, that is easy to drink, though it doesn't quite stand up to some of the better examples of the style

Picked up a single from the Highland Lakes Ingles cooler in Flat Rock on 11-30-23 for $2. Canned on 9-28-23; consumed on 4-19-24. Cold stored since purchase.

Beer poured dark brown with a pretty good off-white head.

Nose has notes of light roasted malts and chocolate.

Taste is a moderately roasted malt base that yields notes of chocolate and pumpernickel bread. Finishes with a deft touch of sweetness that is balanced by the hopping.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied and pretty refreshing.

Overall another solid beer from the Highland brewing team!

Poured from a 12 oz can into glass pint. Pours opaque dark brown; held up to the light, it has a reddish tint. Gives about 1/2" of tan head that dissipates slowly. Taste is bitter at first, fading to a lingering coffee and toasted malt that persists on the pallet. Mouthfeel and taste are similar to the Oatmeal Porter made by the same brewer, which I have had many times. Good beer for a winter afternoon session.

Poured into a 16oz stemless wine glass. Mahogany, cola-like body. It rewarded an aggressive pour with a tall, pillowy tan head. Really beautiful to look at.

Nose is muted, some roasty notes. Not very aromatic but what I get is on point. Taste follows the nose. Somewhat muted dark roasted grains with some crispy bitterness from hops and carbonation. This is a very effervescent beer.

The mouthfeel really stands out here. What a silky boy. The head quickly collapsed down and left some wispy lacing but it hardly had time to set. I finished it very quickly due to how smooth it is - in spite of being quite carbonated. It feels like a nitro beer.

At first I was a bit let down because I mistook this for a standard brown ale. I expected a bold punch in the taste buds. But seeing that it’s a dunkel makes much more sense and, as such, I love it. Damn fine beer.

Look: It pours very dark brown with a tan head. Head retention is good.

Smell: It has roasted and cola like aromas with a bit of spiciness.

Taste: It has roasted flavors with some very like cola elements. It has some spiciness.

Feel: It has a medium body and a bit of crispness especially from the carbonation.

Overall, a nice easy drinking beer.
