Its coloration is very dark and full with amber, coffee, chocolate tones. It smells nice with starchy oatmeal ovations. Once poured the head grows with a white head turning brown as it recedes. The mouth feel is not overly carbonated with a rich full snap that is pleasing without a hit of alcohol or fruit. It goes down smooth and leaves a mild aftertaste that is slightly bitter. I can think of a few better. If you are looking for a solid american porter without any fruity tastes this one is it. I like it. However, I will not keep this one around.

Cheers

Aged in Woodford barrels

Appearance: The beer arrives with dark brown liquid supplemented by ruby highlights; a fluffy tan head manages to leave shards of lace along the sides of the glass

Smell: Burnt coffee with mellow undertones of roasted oats and hints of Bourbon, oak and vanilla

Taste: Starts out with a charred sensation that grows slightly bitter by mid-palate, when some coffee elements kick in; after the swallow, the Bourbon, oak and vanilla tones add another angle; chocolate appears in the finish

Mouthfeel: Creamy, but a bit light bodied with moderate carbonation

Overall: A nice angle on one of Highland's better beers; would love to see them do a bottle release of this one

11 ounce pour - Taco Mac in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Very dark brown body, a little amber at its edges, with a slim, albeit slowly receding, ivory-hued head.

Smell: Mildly fragrant nose, but, you do gets your wanted notes of roast, chocolate, caramel, fruit, as well as the oak and vanilla from the bourbon.

Taste: Splash of cola, slight milk chocolate, very sparse roastiness. A light dark fruitiness. Highland delivers a gentle bourbon character, it's not overpowering, nor is it lacking, it's just enough to brighten up the standard slight flavors. Closes out with a surprising zing of crispness.

Mouthfeel: Just under medium-bodied. Medium-plus carbonation.

Overall: I was not a huge fan of the original HOP, and, I'll admit, I was concerned the barrel-aging could even be a hindrance,
