Nice tasting beer, could use a little oomph in the looks department. Pale golden color wth sparse head and lazy carbonation. Else, it has a nice hoppy aroma and taste, smooth and delicious. Reminds me of Duvel without the velvety smooth texture. This is actually quite good, and I could easily make this my daily (if it was more readily acceptable...)

Boring beer.

Pale, blond color, little head.
Very sweet taste, almost as if sugar was added directly.
Some hoppiness, unidentified - almos interesting, but disappears quickly and the taste doesn't linger.

Some carbonation.

Mouthfeel is agreeable because sweet, but that's it.

A: Pale gold color. Crystal clear. Looks like a lager. Small, white head with low retention. - 3

S: VERY mild, rice cereal.

T: Sweet malt, slight bitter hop in the end.

M: Smooth, medium body. Slightly dry finish.

O: Meh. This is certainly not one to write home about. French wine is decidedly better than French beer.

On tap in a small hole-in-the wall restaurant in Vieux Lille, Estaminet Au Vieux de la Vielle. Served in a branded glass from the brewery.

Appearance: Pale clear gold. Thin white head, sheets of lacing and some persistent strands noted.

Smell: Faint - slight hint of honey, some herbal notes.

Taste: Crisp and dry. Simple malt, crisp hop finish. Some hints of apple, honey, cut grass, and herbal hops are in there as well.

Mouthfeel: Spicy, a bit sticky with some hop oils sticking to the teeth. Lively carbonation just south of fizzy.

Overall / Drinkability: It's okay. Not a great beer, but okay with a meal. Not as flavorful as other biere de garde I've had. Not sure I would get it again. Dangerous alcohol content though - it sneaks up on you, didn't even think it was a high ABV beer until I got up from the table and then I could notice it.

330ml bottle served in an ordinary glass.

A: Pours a hazy golden yellow color forming a medium bubbled white head. Good retention and some thin lacings left

S: Crispy, malty and citrus in the nose. Sweet grains and candy sugar. Fruity with notes o grapefruit. Flowery hops

T: Slightly sweet malts in upfront. Becomes quickly dry and citrus. Strong notes of grains. Notes of grapefruit, honey, candy sugar and flowery hops. Quity earthy yeasts

M: Heavy creamy body. Medium carbonation. Citrus and candy sugar in the aftertaste

O: Average drinkability. Not bad for a French beer

Beer served from bottle into a plastic 6 oz cup. Served at Il Divino Bacco, Bari. Glasses are no longer served with beer here.

A - Beer poured with cloudy, light orange, golden colored body; half finger white head formed and held well; some lacing stuck on the sides; well carbonated

S - Quick, crisp blast of lemon and citrus aromas; sweet brown sugar, similar aroma to a Grand Cru; wheat; fruit yeast scents some spice

T - Strong ABV and brown sugar taste; typical grand cru flavor; lemon rinse and yeast flavor hits the middle of the palate; some spices

M - Frothy and bubbly body; lemon bitter aftertaste; dry flavor; smooth texture

D - Not a bad beer; I like the body of the beer and its smooth texture; packed with a nice fruit flavor

75cl brown glass bottle served into Westvleteren goblet in Rome, Italy, at me friend's gaff. Reviewed live.

A: One finger head of no cream, unappealing thinness, and average retention. Colour is a lemon-yellow. Transparent.

Sm: Lemon citrus ester hops and cream. Pleasant if mild.

T: Lemon citrus esters, refreshing full barley foundation, and cream. Simple but complex enough. Quite well balanced and indeed well built for its aims.

Mf: Soft, smooth, wet, and refreshing. Some cream on the open. Suits the flavours of the body quite nicely.

Dr: Very easy drinking, relatively high ABV, and pretty good quality. Worth a try, especially considering the relatively low price.

330ml bottle on a tulip glass

A- Cloudy golden with a medium and nice head that sticks around almost until the end

S- Hops and lemon as far as i can tell, but this beer has a quite weak aroma

T- Taste is dominated by hops, with some fruity and citric notes. Good but always the same. This beer lacks complexity

M- The beer fills the mouth well and is also pleasantly crispy on the tongue, but carboniation is too rich and aftertaste is too bitter

D- Very easy to drink but not taht much interesting. It also leaves a quite bad aftertaste

You can find this in a lot of supermarkets in Italy. I decided to give it a try. Not a bad beer but sure not worth the money

Transparent gold color. Lemony smell, like sherbet. Persistent foam. The technique of hopping offers a spicy mouth (but a bit behind) but where the port has a nice hop to beer appears by his side herbal and green. We taste some subtle traces of pear but the proposed model falls short of current models, the spicy side is exceeded by the models and the Belgian side hopped himself is overwhelmed by the IPA's. This lingering bitterness just as it should. Where Mythical emphasizes hops, Divine puts on cereals. However, for a "Bière de Garde".

Deep blonde color, very few bubbles. A white foam, not bad.
In the smell a quite fresh hop, peppery, on a malty base, and caramel. Hay. Not bad.
A bit less interesting in the taste. Again hop, a bit of frutiness, some camomile notes.
Again a good hop in the aftertaste, then a little sweet, but still drinkable.
Not bad, but there are a lot of better beer.

A: Pour is clear light golden with a large white thick head, light but still creamy. Slow dissipation leaves rich lacings.

S: Dry malt and some fruityness; green apples. Balanced hops.

T: Fruity, light, balanced. Malt. Floral hops. Some bitterness. Citric notes.

M: Short aftertaste, mostly bitter. Body is light and carbonation is rich.

D: A well balanced, nice Biere de Garde

The beer is clear straw color with a large white head leaving good lacing.

There is some pure sugary sweetness in the smell, but also a good measurement of acidity, sour milk and lemon.

The taste is upfront sweet white bread, complemented with citric aromas and a very smalll bitterness at the end.

Rather high carbonation, a smooth body.

It's quite decent, and the rather high alcohol content does not shine thru.

Bottle: Poured a clear light golden color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of light grainy malt with light residual sugar and light dry hoppy notes. Taste is somewhat bland with notes of dry hops with light floral notes and some light sugary grainy malt. Body is lighter then average with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not much focus and lacking character makes this a bland offering.

33cl, best 28.07.10, LO4.4.11, poured into goblet.

Super clear pale straw color. Small white head doesn't last too long, lots of rising bubbles keep it going.

Decent hoppines in aroma, spicy or floral hops (like La Chouffe). A bit of a corn-like malty smell under that.

Upfront it's sweet in the way many pan-euro lagers are sweet, reminiscent of corn and white bread. There is a good bit of floral hops in the taste as well, though not as much as the aroma suggested. Decent bitterness (30ibu?). Dry, somewhat bitter finish.

Mouthfeel is a touch watery, with some effervesence and bitterness in the finish.

Alcohol is well hidden. Fairly easy to drink, if not particularly exciting.

A: Pale yellow color, slightly hazy. Enormous white and uneven head that leaves chunky lacings as it settles.

S: Fragile malt aromas, white bread, some yeast, faint herbal notes, lemon and some grass. The alcohol is noticeable. A weak, boring and uneven smell.

T: Thin malty background, some bready notes and a faint taste of peach. Rather sweet. Some grassy hops and faint hop resins. Lemon and herbs. The finish is short, mildly bitter and is dominated by an almost boozy phenolic taste of alcohol. The taste is not pleasant at all - boring, uneven and uni-dimensional. The taste of alcohol is down right unpleasant.

M: Light body at first but as the alcohol develops in the finish it gets oily and quite sticky. This is not god.

D: This was a huge disappointment. I wasn't expecting much from this one, but still it failed to meet my expectations. Not recommended.
