Appearance: Pours black with a reddish hue. There's a very slight head on the pour.
Smell: The aroma consists of sweet malt with a hint of cherries.
Taste: The cherries really dominate the taste, hitting hard on the aftertaste. There's also the presence of alcohol, but it adds to the tastes complexities.
Mouthfeel: It covers the palate and is very heavily bodied; perfect for the sweetness.
Drinkability: This is definitely not a session brew. Slow sipping is required, but it's great for sipping, so that's fantastic.

From 2003 notes...
Appears black with a nice, 1 finger tan head that slowly goes away as I drink.
Smell is of dark fruit, chocolate, coffee, and creamy caramel and perhaps a hint of molassas.
Taste is great. A full bodied taste of sweetness, bitterness, and chewy roasted grain.
Mouthfeel is smooth and manages to hit the entire palate swirling with rich, dark fruit, toasted nuts and a beautiful flavor.
This is a great double bock. The best I've had from Trout River and one of the best American double bocks I've ever tasted.
Finger licking good.
