Poured off the tap at the brewery with little beige head. Very little retention and poor lacing, I found it flat after five minutes. :-( The nose was smelled strongly of sour mashed grains and alcohol esters with some spiciness underneath. The color was a cloudy (unfiltered) amber. The flavors surprised me and impressed me. At first it was bold and malty, caramel malt in particular. Then it turned to sour grain mash in the middle with kumquat and grapefruit citrus highlights. The finish was tart and taut when the hops caught up. Medium bodied and very lightly carbonated. Clearly an experimental brew for the River boys but a solid venture. Unique and intriguing but the appearance needs real work.

Served in a pint glass at the brewery.

Pours a cloudy orangey, brown color with no head. Fruity esters and cherry dominate the aroma. Up front flavors of sour cherry and alcohol give way to wheat and lemon with medium body and carbonation. Mouth cleansing at first, there is a slight pucker in the finish. A one note beer dominated by cherry, needs more balance.

Thanks to grassrootsVT for this...
Appears a transparent amber with a small, off-white head that quickly fizzles out into a mild cap. Scattered spots of lacing are left around the glass.
Smell is fruity, full of caramel, toffee, roasted nuts, and citrus.
Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a sweet, fruity flavor from the lagering yeast.
Mouthfeel is smooth, mildly sweet up front and sort of yummy despite not fitting the style completely. I know many brewers have been using a lager yeast lately for a "Doppel Weizen Bock", which isn't a true style(yes - I know that's what it says on the Aventinus bottle) but more of a hybrid of using a wheat base and lagering the brew like a doppelbock, rather than using the Bavarian Ale strain with it's naturally spicy phenols that made Aventinus famous.
