A dark rosey-brown brew with a reasonable tannish head and good lacing. It has a nice nutty-malt smell that is somewhat wine-like. I don't note so much nuttiness in the taste here though. It's more of a mild combination of malt and grape in a medium bodied finely carbonated liquid. Alcohol presence is notable but overall this is a drinkable and tastey brown ale. One you should try.

12 oz. bottle. It pours dark crimson with light carbonation, a half-inch khaki head, and moderate lacing. Earthy and nutty in the nose, along with a light dose of coffee. The flavor adds to this rich toasted malts, molasses, maple?, and some mild spicy/salty and earthy hops, on top of a light, almost airy body that leaves a medium finish. Overall, a nice mild brown ale - a bit light in flavor, but still tasty. Tastes better as it warms.

How did you know my uncle is a nut? The pour was a rich mahogany brown color with light red hues and very nice clarity. There is a nice froathy head that did dissipate quickly to the side but never really went away.
The nose is not as prominent as the guy on the bottle. Some malty notes with a noticeable English accent. Most a light carmel aroma but a very light chocolate touch at the back end which gives it a sweetness to the beer.
The taste is more prominent then the nose. The malt is more prominent with a dry chocolate taste mixed with a slight roasted quality. Some crystal notes come out well. Nuot much of a nutty flavor, but there is touches of toffee and caramel that are close. Not much hops but
A good mouthfeel as should be per style. There is a dryness at the end that deters from the malt bomb experience. Carbonation is ok. Overall this is a good beer and easy to drink for a English Brown, even if your uncle (or aunt for that matter) are nuts.

Pours a clear clean brown with ruby highlights throughout. Small off white head with little retention and no lacing.
Deep rich chestnut aromas with a solid malty backbone. The slightest hint of earthy hops. Sweet milk chocolate and toffee as well as a microcopic amount of fig.
Thin, weak, and very one dimensional. Sweet flavors of chestnut, and almond, with a slight toffeed malt and overly watery finish. Nose is what this beer has going for it. Not much else.

12 oz. bottle, given to me by my parents from their vacation, poured into Das Festhouse pint
A: Clear, dark reddish-brown color with very large bubbles, too much carbonation, reminded me of cola
S: The most noticable smell is some sort of damn metallic odor. The metal masks the nutty malt smell
T: Again, the damn metal, hiding a timid roasted flavor
M: Thin and way too carbonated for this style, reminds me of cola
D: Metallic taste, thin body, and high carbonation make this not very desirable in MHO
I had higher expectations of this brew due to the reviews and my like of other beers like this (Newcastle, Sam Smith's, Troeg's and Redhook)
I really did not like this beer.

Pours a light brown color, no head with some very fine bubbles here and there across the surface. Aroma is sweet and nutty w some buttery toffee in there. Sweet caramel and nut flavor with a very mild bitterness. The sweet malt is very tasty and really good. A good froth does not change the flavor but thickens the mouthfeel. A great Nut brown Ale, quaffable, not heavy.

From a six pack purchased at Chip's in Kill Devil Hills.
A: Deep chocolatey brown color with a small head on pour that disappears into a thin white ring.
S: Nose is an intense nuttiness of pour that settles into a slighty malty grain aroma.
T: Taste is a nutty malt character that has smoky hints. The smoke does not last long and finishes into another nutty flavor.
M: The smoky, nutty malt is sweet on the palate.
D: Not too shabby, this is a solid nut brown ale.

No freshness date found. Pours from the bottle a clear cola, brown color topped by a rocky tan head - one finger high. The head has very good retention. I also noted some rosy edges in the color.
The aroma is hard to place and kind of weak, but, I detected malts and some sweetness. There is also some breadiness in the smell.
The taste is very good with sweet malts and very mild hoppiness. The mouthfeel is mild and light bodied with low carbonation.

Poured a deep reedish-brown color with moderate dreamy tannish head. Smell is malty with some over-ripe fruit and a bit too much of a flowery scent for mu liking. Taste is better than the smell with nice malt notes and a rich caramel-toffe taste that improves as the beer warms. Finish allows more of the hope bitterness to prrsent itself and provides a pleasant ending for this beer. Very drinkable. Nice session beer.

bought my girlfriend a 6-pack of various browns, but somehow, i got served this one.
pours up good and dark, almost cloudy brown, thick head of tan bubbles.
smell is damn nice, nutty, malty, warm buttered bread. i like the smell of this beer very much.
the tast was outstanding at first. almond or sweeter nuts, malts all over the place, very little hop. this is how i like a nut brown. however, the sweetness was a bit too strong, and the final 1/3 of the beer was a bit too much like molasses, not malty goodness.
mouthfeel was fine, some carbonation, slick and almost creamy, but a bit to thick (maybe it was the sweetness).
again, drinkability was affected by the sweetness. i would drink it again, but probably wouldn't have more than 2 or 3.
cheers...

appearance: The pour creates a low, off white head that soon recedes to just a collar. The beer is a clear, deep, reddish brown color.
smell: A definite toasted nutty character is the first thing I pick up on. Sweetness is low, as is the English hop aroma. Maybe some light hints of chocolate, and an earthy woodiness.
mouthfeel: The carbonation is toward the higher end of the medium range, and the body toward the ligher end of that range.
taste: Silmilar to the smell, though a little more sweet than I would have guessed from the aroma. Same nuttiness and woodiness...though a little less noticeable, and with more chocolate coming through. Finish is lightly bitter with some lingering toasted flavors.
drinkability: Not a bad beer at all, and easy to drink.
Bottle from a fresh six I picked up last night at the brewery.

Nice solid brown color with a beige to light brown head and very active carbonation. Some nice nutty malt aromas shine thru the signs of aging/oxidation. Nutty malt flavor dominates with some oxidation/infection/aging present. Medium bodied and smooth.
Would like to taste fresher like the King David's Red but overall not too bad for it's issues. Slightly off but certainly drinkable.
Edenton -- Talk to your distributors about old brews (assuming it's old based on the bottle codes below) or bone up on the Quality Assurance.
Per EBC website: 5% ABV
6 diff malts incl. Pilsner, imported Crystal, and Roasted malts.
English Northdowne, Fuggles, and Goldings hops.

Uncle Nut's Nut Brown Ale is closer to bronzed dark orange than to nut brown. The khaki colored cap is small despite an aggressive pour. Given the rapid-fire bursting of tiny bubbles, it's a wonder that it hasn't noticeably deflated in the several minutes since the pour. Although minimal lace is seen initially, more is created as the beer disappears with drinking.
The nose is classic English brown ale and is a little better than average. I can appreciate cocoa powder, lightly toasted walnuts, fruity hops and the merest hint of indeterminate spice. It's a bit too low on power and aggressiveness to garner much praise.
This is a slightly lighter than usual, acceptably tasty brown ale. The flavor profile consists primarily of barely roasted barley, bittersweet chocolate, nuts and weak coffee. The British hop bill (Northedown, Fuggles and Goldings) makes very little impression.
The beer is minimally sweet and finishes clean due to the lighter than medium body. The mouthfeel is more lager-like than ale-like and is on the low end of the style spectrum. Given the less than expansive head, I'm not surprised that it isn't all that lively in the mouth.
Uncle Nut, as depicted on the label, may be an eccentric guy (the website contains a story in which he comes downstairs to join a party pants-less), but his beer contains no surprises. It's a standard English brown that could use both more malt and more hops. Still though, it's a sessionable ale that should make it easy for North Carolinians to 'drink locally'.

This Nut pours a deep clear chestnut brown with a ever so slightly tainted off white head. Aroma is a bit minimal
slight caramel and a bit nutty, tad sweet. Flavor is fair at best, bitter up front, semi sweet middle and a bit nutty finish. O.K in the mouth and drinkability
well I would take it over any Macro. Overall this beer is ok. The flavor left me wanting more. It is on the launching pad of a good beer but never gets off the ground.

One of my favorite style from my favorite state . . . what more can you ask for? After a nice evening of drinking random beers, this one hit the spot as my final one for the evening. Nice mix of chocolate and hazelnuts with the smell and taste. Not too heavy on the stomach either. I enjoyed this almost as much as a Brooklyn Brown or Cottonwood Low Down Brown.

12oz bottle from GCBrewingCo as part of BIF 20. Thanks for the opportunity.
Poured into an imperial pint glass, Got 5" of foam over <1" of beer. This is somewhat of a problem, since I didn't even get the whole bottle in the glass, only about half. Ok, finally got it all in. Head is light brown and looks nice, with minimal lacing. However, this ain't no Belgian, and ain't supposed to foam like that. As such, appearance was docked.
Aroma is very minimal of grains. Taste is bland grains up front, with a strong, artificial-seeming nut flavor at the end, almost cloyingly strong there. Mouthfeel, even with all that foam, is still overly gassy, and drinkability is just plain bad as well. Would keep away from this one.

Goofy picture of a typical crazed "Uncle Nut" kinda guy label offers up this 12 oz. browner as a dark clear amber hued pour topped with a minimal khaki collared head cap topping off a bubble-less brew.
Bright aromatic brown sugar like a Sugar Daddy candy. Some wet cardboard notes.
First swigs: Malty hard candy and a tongue coating of sugar. Some pleasant maple sugar and "cup of tea" flavors. Ephemeral flavor tapers off to a quickly cloying maple syrup and confectioners sugar bite. Flavor reminds me of a mixed box of chocolates that always has that one Maple candy that is so-so.
Feel is a soft muted carbonation with a shushy mush.
Drinkability is stunted by the cloying tongue coating. This is a sugary brown.
Last swigs: Glad that this was part of a 5 x mixed case that had some decent brews like the Helles and the American Pale. Otherwise average at best and for about $30 a case, way over priced.
Beer is good. Happy beering from a few states away.

The beer pours a nice brown color with a thick frothy tan head that slowly fades to lacing. The aroma is good. It has a wonderful malty scent that boasts of crystal, roasted, and victory malts. It is sweet with some nutty notes. The taste is good also. It has a smooth, malty flavor that goes down easy and finishes sweet and toastey. The mouthfeel is fine. It is a medium bodied beer with adequate carbonation. This is a good nut brown. Some people might say it's too sweet, but I like my brown ales this way. This is a good drinker.
