On draught at the brewpub, served in a pint glass. This is NOT and English bitter, but was certainly English in style - there doesn't appear to be an English Amber Ale category, so it's filed as is.
Pours a dark mahogany with some deep reds in the body, and a humungous soapy white head in typical Granite style. Modest clarity in the body, great retention and a wall of lace. Nose has some soft English malt qualities, a bit of diacetyl and caramel. A touch of hops. Simple, but inviting. Taste has more malts, a bit of fruitiness, caramel and some English hops. A touch of a bitterness in the finish, but very English all around in terms of composition. Mouthfeel is medium with some good weight to it. Carbonation is a bit higher than cask, but still fairly low overall. A solid pint, and something that I think could fit in nicely with their regular selection.
