Really nice cloudy yellow colour with thick head and some sediments.
Fruity smell.
The taste is also fruity, with bananas in front and some fresh unripe fruits giving a bit of astringence.
Dense body, a pleasure to drink.
A very well made weizen!

Pours a murky dark orange color with a small top off white head that disolves rather quickly. Sweet aroma off banana,yeast and cloves. The flavour follows the nose for the most. Sweet banana with wheatmalts and cloves, finishes off dry with a slight bitterness and a decent lenght in the aftertaste. Meddium carbonated with a thick body. The mouthfeel are creamy but a little watery. This is more than a decengt enough hefeweizen. Nothing very exiting , but good and easy driking.

Stiegl's Weisse is a traditional, basic Bavarian-style hefeweizen with the typical appearance and notes of banana and clove from the yeast. They're not too strong, their not too light, and there's a very subtle tartness within the wheat maltiness as well. It's medium light in body and effervescently crisp - easy to drink and refreshing as it's not too sweet, and some spicy hops rouse your tastebuds in the finish so that you're ready for the next sip.

A- Vanilla colored bubbles that are wee tight provide a layer of frothy cover over this golden hued brew that also has bronze tinges around the rim....this is also semi-transparent, wheat beer! The retention levels are good and the lacing is quite good, with chunky patches of foam sliding slowly back into the glass.

S- Biscuit like yeast....almost doughy, banana like esters, possible apricot kernel, appfelwine, peach, along with crystal and caramel malts.....the finish is slightly Earthy and of some sweet spice. Overall a nice, yet mild aroma that would be average-ish.

T- Overall this is mild and watered down, with yellow fruit flavors....banana, apricot, golden delicious apple, and a dry, muted spice finish. I find there is a small metallic quality about it and it underwhelms the palate unfortunately.

M/O- Champagne like bubbles that provide a nice burst of zing on the palate......light bodied and sociable, this would make a good hot weather/ladies drink. The alcohol is well hidden, but I just don't find it my kind of beer.....not offensive, but nothing to write home about. Probably pass on this one....

330ml bottle, another refugee from the 'current' Stiegl Advent calendar that didn't sell so well (that's the understatement of the year).

This beer pours a hazy, medium golden amber colour, with a handful of puffy, finely foamy, and mildly bubbly dirty white head, which leaves some low-lying desert-scape topography lace around the glass as it quickly sinks away.

It smells of bready wheat malt, banana puree, further apple and pear fruity notes, discreetly phenolic yeast, and plain earthy and weedy hop bitters. The taste is grainy, gritty caramel and wheat malt, muddled pome and drupe fruit, sedate yeast, a twinge of mixed table top pepper mill grist and clove spice, and more weak earthy and leafy noble hoppiness.

The bubbles are adequate in their plain and supportive frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with a wee airy creaminess arising from the outset. It finishes off-dry, the sweet wheatiness and kind of sugary spice lingering more or less in isolation.

Overall, a not too shabby version of the style, easy to drink, and very reminiscent of summertime patio indulgence, or so I imagine. Glad I finally got to try this one without all the expensive shitty trappings of this one's packaging vector around here.

Mild and light bodied weizen from Austria, Cloudy copper color with medium fluffy head. Sediment is chunky, so I sense this bottle is a bit old, but not skunky. Aroma is typical weizen notes, but toned down. Looks thick, but is actually fairly light bodied. Taste is also somewhat subdued, slight banana/clove tastes. Passable weizen.

500ml bottle in Blef Bar No. 2, Ljubljana (€3.60):
A pretty good wheat beer. The beer was quite a nice one that went down easily with a good balance, the banana & clove sweetness going well with the citrus flavours that followed. Definitely an enjoyable Austrian wheat beer & one I'd be tempted to pick up again if I found it in the UK but it's not quite a standout offering.

Very dark orange color, hazy as a good Hefeweizen should be. Nice two finger fluffy off white head, good retention and lacing. Huge aromas of banana, coriander, bubble gum, and wheat bread. Flavor was missing that good banana and spice flavor though, but the bready wheat flavor was quite dominant, with just a bit of citrusy lemony tart notes. The mouthfeel was rather thin for a Hefeweizen, but with good carbonation. Overall, pretty good, but not overwhelming.

The colour is orange-amber (30 EBC), the liquid is cloudy. The thick off-white head fills the glass at first. It stabilizes to a two finger head, leaving thick lacing on the glass.

The smell is fresh with distinct notes of dough, spicy phenols, sticky caramel sweetness and hints of oak and banana candy.

The taste is smooth. Caramel sweetness and fruit-flavoured candy. Ripe bananas and banana peels. Clean mild bitterness and some wheat sourness. Dough and wheat flour. Spicy notes of nutmeg, orange peels and cloves in the background. Medium to full body. The aftertaste is mild and cohesive with caramel, fruit candy, sweet wheat dough and a touch of metal.

The carbonation is medium strong; the many small bubbles long-lived. The liquid is smooth and a bit thick.

A solid Hefeweizen with very balanced phenols, but perhaps a bit too sweet.

Poured from 500 ML bottle into a "Conquest" pint glass.
Aroma- Has a pretty sweet smell of wheat and barley with some honey and malt tossed in for good measure.
Appearance- Pours a nice orangish color with a large white head.
Taste- Has a great sweet weizen flavor. The malt and wheat are blended well and this is a great beer to enjoy. . .often!
Palate- This is a medium bodied beer with heavy carbonation.
Overall- I thoroughly enjoyed this beer. I had never seen this beer before but i will drink this again. This is the first memorable Austrian beer that i have had.

Appearance is a somewhat hazy honey color topped by a tall white head. The head has very good retention and a fair amount of lacing.

Aromas are sweet and bready, with the expected fruitiness of bananas from the yeast.

The taste is malty and lightly sweet with tropical fruit flavors.

The mouthfeel is light in body with a moderate amount of carbonation. The finish is mildly sweet and fruity.

Overall a light and refreshing wheat beer that I'd have again.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a weizen glass.

Appearance: medium orange hue with a light haze and a very strong effervescence. Head is three fingers of pillowy tan foam. It's both darker and less hazy than I usually see in the style, but overall the whole package is pretty attractive.

Smell: sweet aroma with distinct wheat and barley malt character. There's a little bit of banana here, and the overall effect is very breakfasty. The sweetness is a little oppressive, though.

Taste: sweet malt with a very cereal-like quality and a tiny bit of clove character -- it's spicier than the aroma. The aftertaste has a very Wheat Chex kind of a flavor going on: not bad, but not something I'm going after. It's a balanced beer; it just doesn't suit my palate particularly.

Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a strong carbonation and big, satisfying creaminess. Bam!

Overall: this is not so bad a beer, but the flavor has this cereal-like quality that I don't love. It's not off-putting, per se, but I just don't see myself looking for this beer again.

Stiegl is a brew that I'm well acquainted with, having spend the better part of a week in Salzburg back in 2001 and the hostel I stayed at only had Stiegl on tap (I believe it was the weizen but I could be wrong). In any case I was most pleased with the Austrian beer and missed it somewhat on my return to old skippy (Australia).

Poured from a 500ml bottle into a Stiegl Weizen glass.

A: This brew presents as a murky amber with a reasonably large white head. Looks like a good Hefe!

S: Usual Weizen suspects (banana and cloves) turn up but don't really crash the party. There is a musty yeast and fresh mountain water thrown in as well, overall a little lacklustre in the aroma department.

T: The Weisse flavours are there too, though in a diminished capacity; banana, clove, hint of cardamom, yeast, pepper and a hearty grain base in the middle followed by a dry, slightly sour finish. It's an easy one on the buds for a Weizen, however this personally detracts a little from what could be a strong brew.

M: Dense carbonation with a medium but watery (for a wheat beer) body.

D: This is one Weisse that is easy to drink, too easy - needs bolder wheat beer flavours to really stand out. Though it is a decent starter for the beginner Weizen drinker that will one day graduate to Weihenstephaner or Schneider Weisse Tap 7.

Food match: Austrian (as opposed to German) cuisine. Note: I was told to say that by a rather large Austrian body-builder from Graz.

Murky caramel brown with a creamy and durable tan head. The head leaves some lacing.
A. Banana, clove, and bready malt, in that order.
T: About as expected from the nose, except spicier. Rather wheaty.
M: Light body is a bit watery; good carbonation.
O: not a style of beer I usually enjoy much, but this one certainly has an exceptional mouthfeel.

A - Pours with two fingers of white foam on top of a hazy, golden brown body. The foam settles at a moderate pace and leaves good lace.

S - Spicy wheat notes with some lemon and pepper as well as a hint of clove.

T - Thick, spicy wheat up front with some clove and lemon. Notes of pepper, vanilla, and more lemon peel in the middle with a peppery finish and lingering notes of banana.

M - A thick body, moderately high carbonation, and a slightly dry finish.

D - A fairly well done Weisse beer, the wheat character is both thick and spicy while the yeast adds all of the standard notes. Not the absolute best of the style, but well made and refreshing.

Had this on tap last weekend on the German pub crawl, and saw the sharp red-labeled bottle today in the shop.

Back label dated "13711" whatever that means. Guessing a euro best by/production date of July 13th, 2011? Old either way.

Into a weizen glass it pours an opaque orange copper color. Slightly more dark than a typical hefe. Lasting white foam, though there is no lacing.

Smells bready and tea-like, not much in the way of traditional banana & clove esters. Swirling the glass brings out some sweetness and unpleasant alcohol fusels. Slightly papery and oxidized already it seems, a shame as this is relatively new to the market.

Flavors are smooth and wheaty, though a but muted and dull. Some light breadiness, and hint of banana but not much. Overall a bit oxidized, papery, and watery. Not something i'll drink again. The tap sample was fairly tart, and that seemed a little odd though marginally acceptable.

Pours an orange-gold colour- quite dark, really, but nice cloud and generous fluffy snowy head, retaining but sinking slowly. Looks good.

Plenty of German weizen esters floating free and radical in that big head. Musty clove spice with a hint of white pepper, capsicum and some green apple. Pretty standard weizen notes and yet feels lacking on the fruit esters. OK.

All the banana's on the flavour. Big banana hit that continues all the way through, nice shades of sweet and touch and a touch of vanilla joining later in the piece. Touch here and there of a clove and nutmeg spice, but most of the sizzle in the mouth comes from the fizz, and there's quite a pull at the back.

Overall a decent weizen, but I'd like more spice on the palate and more fruit on the nose.

Poured form a 50cl bottle into a weizen glass.

A - Solid caramel colour with a big pillowy head. Few carbonation bubbles floating around as well.

S - Plenty of malty banana and a hint of some sweeter peach and mild apple.

T - Malty and sweet initially. Nice banana caramel assortment of flavours. Carbonation is smoother than expected.

M - With the milder carbonation there's not much happening in the mouth. The malt elements give it some body but in this regard it's a bit plain.

O - I've always been a fan of banana-y type hefeweizen beers and was excited to see this one in the shop. Not unlike the Weihenstephan HW but replacing the vanilla for malt. Perhaps a little too one-dimensional but I'm enjoying this for what it is.. Definitely recommended.

500ml bottle.

It pours a cloudy amberish gold with a foamy white head that could be better.

The smell is bright and strong. Lots of clover but also a healthy dose of lemon and banana. It is a quintessential hefeweizen smell.

The taste isn't as great but still pretty good. Lots of wheat and clove with some ripe banana. The body is a bit weak.

Overall not bad.
