I had this on tap at Steelhead Brew Co, Eugene, OR. The color was light golden and cloudy, served with a lemon wedge. It didn't have any head and smelled citrusy. The taste was mainly of dry hops and citrus from the lemon, no lacing on the glass. I thought it was very refreshing and more like a golden than a hefeweizen.

This is a yearround offering from Steelhead. Had it at their Eugene City brewery.

Musty yellow with some cloudy fog action going on. Lemon wedge on the rim. I was sitting outside, so this one seemed to glow when holding it up before me.

Spicy wheat with standard hefe clove punches. Getting some dry yeast off it too.

Tastes really good. Clear and smooth. I really enjoyed this, especially since the thermometer was poking over 90. Crisp and mouthsmackingly good.

I had a pint of the weasel while visiting Eugene last week.

Served in a standard pint with a lemon wedge on the side, the beer is a cloudy dark yellow.

The nose has some subtle spice with floral undertones.

Light bright taste. Some grains and perfume from hops. It has a very mild spice profile. Reminds me a bit of an American wheat more than a hefe.

The mouth is crisp and sharp. This is a good crossover beer.

Seemed to be very popular with the denizens of the brewery.

11/08/04- Steelhead Brewery in Burlingame, CA on tap.

Appearance- Fairly small head with light lacing. Poured a straw yellow.

Smell- Cloves, spices and wheat.

Taste- Dry finish, a bit bitter, not as creamy as other premium hefeweisens. Kinda of a combo between a pils and a hefe.

Mouthfeel- Too high carbonation for a hefe. Creates a non smooth flow.

Drinkability- A different hefe, but still fairly drinkable.

Hairy Weasel is a sort of Yellow Cab or lemon drop color. The menu heralds this as “our lightest offering” though the Barracuda Blonde is certainly lighter. Hairy Weasel is notable for having a very similar taste to Steelhead’s Raging Rhino Red, a red or Scottish ale depending on your preferred interpretation. I attribute this similarity to a common yeast strain used by the house.

Hairy Weasel is partly cloudy – not unlike Eugene itself this time of year. Tiny bubbles rise rapidly in small measure but contribute nothing to the absent head and lace. The aroma is faintly yeasty though mostly obscured by the fresh wedge of lemon hung on the glass rim. The taste is of modest proportions, is consistent with the style, and is enhanced by the lemon.

Had this on tap tonight in Eugene. Pour was cloudy light orange very bright looking even with the haze. Nice thick head that turns to a thin layer of froth. Smell was citrus like and sweet with a hint of cloves or spice in there. Taste was much the same a nice dry aftertaste.
