Look: Jet black in color with a good-looking light brown head that builds quickly to a pillow, slowly receding and leaving great lacing behind
Aroma: Roast, rye, chocolate, herbal hop notes, earthiness, and wafts of pine
Taste: Starts off with herbal and pine-led hops before a huge hit of spicy rye and roast come into play. As those all peak and then pull back, rich chocolate picks up steam along with some earthiness and closes with piney hops, roast, and rye
Mouthfeel: Full, lightly smooth and slick, medium-high carbonation, and medium dryness on the finish
Overall: This is some tasty stuff. I dig these folks’ beers a lot and when I saw a combo of two of my most sucker styles combined – rye beer and black IPA, I couldn’t resist. A nicely done CDA/Black IPA with plenty of hop flavor and in such a way in that is doesn’t clash with the dark malt, plus the nice incorporation of the rye to it all. Delicious and recommended

Whoa, what do we have here?! Black with a thin, brown head with good retention and lacing, this looks solid. The nose is pure CDA. Dark, bitter roasted grain, bitter chicory root that pairs nicely with the pine and mildly herbal hop character. Grainy, bitter, mildly spicy rye is present. The palate opens bitter with a nice, rich feel, medium in body with the grain, the roast and the grainy bitterness tempering the fuller body. Oily pine, spicy rye follow. Drying, bitter, resiny, pine heavy on the finish. Creamy carbonation. Lovely.
