Pours a clear reddish-brown (mahogany?) into my pilsner glass, very red when held up to a light. Lots of carbonation, but little head forms. No lacing.

Smell is sweet malt (somewhat alcoholic), with a bit of toast and hint of chocolate.

Taste is similar to the smell, with the alcohol being more prominant, and a bit of hops in the finish to give some balance, but not enough. Flavour quickly fades and you're left with nothing but alcohol warmth.

Mouthfeel seems a little light for 7.5%, I'm thinking the taste would linger more on the tongue if it was a tad heavier.

I really liked the initial smell and appearance (despite the lack of head, the carbonation dances on the surface). However, I'm finding it a bit one dimensional, which is not good when dealing with relatively sweeter beers. Add to that a noticable alcohol finish, and I don't think I'd want to drink 2 of these in a row.

Overall, it's definitely worth trying, and has many pleasing qualities. However, it's not something I would want to drink on a continual basis.

341ml bottle poured in a pint glass. Label has a picture of a battle axe on it.

Dark, dark brown and clear. Light brown head is 1.25 inches and spongey on the pour. Reduces to a thin cap leaving gobs of lacing.

Aroma is quite mild. Faint wisps of dark, toasted malts.

Very strong malt profile. Almost has a cough syrup quality to it. Pretty much straight forward without complexities. The alcohol doesn't show itself until the very finish and even then it's pretty tame.

Full bodied mouthfeel with little carbonation. Almost a little chewy.

Another straight forward, but decent beer from Paddock Wood. Pretty plain and average, not bad, but not great either.
