1L plastic bottle with twist-off cap. Sticker on the bottle states beer type and Brewed On date (Sep 7). Poured in a mug.
Black, nearly opaque with just a touch of dark ruby red at the edges when held to the light. Dark tan to light brown head is foamy, dense and 1/4 inch in height. Slowly recedes to a thin ring around the edges.
Nice roasted malt aroma. Hints of sweetness, caramel and burnt sugar. Bold yet inviting.
Taste lacks complexity. Fairly plain and blah. Lightly burnt flavour with a touch of sweetness in the undertone. Aftertaste is burnt, bitter and acidic.
Mouthfeel is pretty thin for a stout. Light-Medium bodied at best. Little carbonation. A bit abrupt and not very smooth.
After the first impressions of appearance and smell I was licking my lips in anticipation. Actually thought I might have a hidden gem on my hands. Unfortunately, I should have realized this was a Bonzinni beer and expected mediocre results at best. This beer might fill your stout needs if you were desperate, but I'd advise going a little further down the road and getting something better.
