This amber ale was colored almost on the burnt red/maroon side. The off-white head lasted only a minute. The smell was subtle and the taste had its expected grainy sweetness, with only small amounts of hops. I felt like I was getting some sort of a very faint metallic resembling taste in the finish. The carbonation was mild and the body was above average, giving it a little fuller mouthfeel. Overall I didn't like how most of these qualities came together in the beer. I probably wouldn't get it again.

Brought back a mixed 6 pack from the brew pub in Las Vegas. I had not tried this one on tap. Pours a nice clear amber with a quarter inch white head. The head fades quickly to a covering of the top of the glass. Leaves a very little lacing. Fairly distinct malty aroma. The taste is good. Fairly mild malt taste that finishes with a little bitterness. Mouthfeel is fine for this style of beer, nothing watery about it and no unpleasant aftertaste. Drinkability is good. This would be a fine session beer. Would pick it every time over Kilians. I wonder if this beer would have suffered, on tap, in a totally frosted beer mug? The flavor is fairly subtle and drinking it at a reasonable temperature at home brought it out very well.

A- a nice dark amber color, decent head, and some decent lacing
S- not a whole lot to talk about here, decent hop smell, a bit of malt but nothing too out of the ordinary
T- good full flavor, the hops hit you right away and finish with it, not real complex but tasty
M- Not bad, a little too creamy for my tastes, froths back
D- Pretty drinkable, but not something I could drink all night

Dark copper in colour with hardly any carbonation. This one has a burnt sugar malty aroma, along with some notes of diacetyl and mild fruit. The mouthfeel is quite strange; starting sweet and full, but evolving into a watery mess. There are some toffee flavors and a bit of bitterness, but not much else. The bottled sample might have suffered a bit in transit.

The beer was a dark garnet with small beige head. Not a ton of lacing.

The nose is of sweet smelling malts. It almost reminds me of hard candy.

The taste was slightly fruity and sweet. The malts exhibit just the faintest hint of being roasted. The hops were MIA.

The mouth was a nice combination of creamy and slightly biting (is this where the hops went?). It is a very easy drinker. Not bad at all.

Nice dark red/marron color with a reddish head that faded. Good malts on the nose but a bit week in contrast to the more robuse nose. Nice thick malting on the tongue with some caramel and almonds or something similar. Good feel and acidity. One of the better ambers I've had for a style I'm not particularly fond of.

Appearance: Rich red color with a smooth, lasting head.

Smell: Light malty aroma but not much else to speak of in this beer.

Taste: Light hop flavor to open the beer with and a chewy, malty base flavor that follows. This beer is not particularly complex or impressive. It tastes very bland and lacks character.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied and thicker than expected. This is a redeeming quality to the beer.

Drinkability: Drinkable but not great. This beer falls into the "beers that will be forgotten" categtory. It's plain and pretty run of the mill. It's certainly not a bad beer though.

Amber colour,beige head lace,some toast and hops, malt and caramel and nuts. better than average jumble finishing balanced bitter and sweet. Light mouthfeel. Quaffable with the malts. Radekfest 05 sample 25, thanks IPFreely. My first from this brewery.

Clear, thoroughly crimson appearance, very slim, rapidly dissipating head.
Malty nose, bright, dark fruits, cherries and grapes, nice enough.
Taste: smooth, malt-driven, on the sweet side, but well-balanced. A bit light in the mouthfeel and body, making for an easy drinker all the way. Malt flavor feels richer, though, halfway in, that's appreciated. A very accomodating brew, that's for sure.

This, to me, is one of those brews that's difficult to rank: it's decent but difficult to call good, whilst also difficult to call average at the same time, which lead me to give it 3.5's across the board.

It pours a fairly deep amber colour with a fairly tiny, off-white head to it. Aside from the slightly darker colour, you'v egot standard stuff here.

The smell is a nice combination of sweetness and a touch of spiciness, if not a bit bland. Malt and hop notes are balanced nice as well.

The flavour starts off primarily sweet and caramel-esque and remaind that way throughout until the finish, where a bit of spice is picked up and a touch of a hop kick is apparent as well. Malt flavour is nicely intermingled throughout.

Again, it's a decent amber that's easy drinking and that I'd grab from this place again if there's no overwhelming seasonal on, but in the end it's nothing special.

From a sampler: Amber-colored with a thin light beige head. Thin and sticky lacing. Mildly malty aroma. The body is smooth but not very rich, with a light roasty character and malt and caramel undertones. Nothing really stands out in the flavor but it is a very even-tasting beer. The finish is lightly sweet with no lingering aftertaste. Okay, but not worth getting next time in Vegas.

Clear, fairly dark amber in hue with a noticeable coppery-bronze highlight. Of the five beers I’ve sampled from Monte Carlo this is the best looking beer. The head was beige in color at its pinnacle the foam was two fingers in height and then quickly faded to a fizzy cap. Lacing was spotty but it didn’t cling that well. Still this is a good-looking beer. The nose is airy with traces of fruit and then a distinctively thin malty aroma kicks in, however the bouquet ends on a down note as a metallic twang emerges. The airiness is unattractive and it makes the nose very hollow. There is no significant expressive malt aroma, in other words it doesn’t smell like an Amber Ale and that says nothing about the metallic twang. The bouquet is not inviting. The palate isn’t half bad. There is a reasonable amount of flavor; the malt supplies a nutty taste along with a dry biscuit and caramely flavor. Nice. Sure it is simple but at least it’s not dreadful. Then again, the more I drink the less impressed I am. The hops arrive at the end and try to loiter into the finish. The hops don’t really contribute much flavor, just a morsel of earthiness and a prudent dose of bitterness. The mouthfeel becomes tacky as there needs to be more carbonation to lift the beer off the tongue. It is almost medium in body. On the whole, this beer is okay. I could drink a few if I’m ever at the brewpub, just give me some salty food to go with it. My Dad brought this back as part of a sampler six-pack. Thanks for the effort Dad!

Not a bad beer to speak of what so ever. Pours a nice amber ruby red with off white head that is a pleasure to the eye. The smell is strong of cherries and sugar malt, hints of molasses as well, the taste is smooth and slight citrus hop, blends well with the smooth sweet apple malts. Medium bodied and wen't down well.

Pours with a one-finger white head that fades to a ring and leaves traces of lace. Clear red/amber color. Light bodied and very light carbonation. Slightly hoppy nose. Starts sweet with some hoppy overtones, finish is beefier than their lager. Good summer ale. Sold as part of a 6-pack from their gift shop for $13.92 by the casino in Las Vegas, NV.

The third of a mixed-bag 6-pack my brother brought back from a recent Las Vegas trip. Also the best of the three. High Roller Red had a clear dark amber clear and lively carbonation but virtually no head. What was there formed a small collar that left streaky lace.
The nose had a soft toasty malt aroma, a heavier caramel note and some light peppery herbal hops notes. The taste had a sweet caramel malt flavor that met and provided a firm balance to the slightly spicy herbal hops bittering that came out in the finish. The feel was medium-bodied and smooth.
Monte Carlo's red ale was surprisingly drinkable after I pretty much forced my way through the first two I sampled. A solid, if unspectacular, attempt at the style.

Pours a dark amber color with a small head. Some light lacing produced on the glass. A faint floral aroma was detected. The flavor was mellow with malts, some bitterness, and a hint of candy (caramel?). The carbonation level was good and this leans towards a medium level in body.

The bitterness and malts ride the tongue for a bit after swallowing. Smooth on the tongue and actually quite drinkable even though the flavor was slightly lacking.

My friends Mark and Maggie brought a sampler pack of MC's brews. This is the first I've remembered to review...

Pours a deep garnet-brown color. Much darker than I expected from an 'Amber' ale, but definitely a pleasant surprise. Head is initially thick and tan-colored. Retention is rather weak, but there is a moderate amount of lace on top of the beer and on the glass. Smell is rather rich and full of toffee-like malt. Slight hint of chocolate in the aroma as well. Well balanced flavor of rich toffee malt and moderately bitter hops. Smooth, creamy mouthfeel with a moderate body. A very drinkable brew.

This was tried as part of a Sampler during a recent visit to the Brewpub on 26th October. It was quite enjoyable as I remember, so I picked up a mixed 6-Pack of MC brews from the Gift Store outside. The slender looking brown glass 12 fl.oz bottle has a simple looking brown papered streched diamond label. Simply labeled as “High Roller Red - Amber Ale”. No Freshness Date or Strength listed.

Served in the Monte-Carlo large handled Mug which I also purchased at the same time as the mixed 6-Pack of MC 12oz beers. Deep auburn red body, with a dark brown hint depending on the angle of the refracted light. Nice looking beige head, creamy looking but with some large bubbles randomly breaking the smooth surface. Solid conditioning & good levels of lacing add to a great looking brew from the Bottle.

Sweet thick toffee malts with a caramel dimension pretty much sum the odors up.

A nice mix of toffee malts & sweet barley flavors to start with, some caramel in the middle, which seem to benefit from a very light bitterness at the end. At times the beer has a very ‘fruity’ feel to it that lingers through to the end, very much like the first time you bite into a Toffee Apple, the sweet Toffee coated sharp green Apples are juxta-posed but work well together.

High Definition 60” Plasma WideScreen malty Red Ale that fills the oral cavity easily with a Surround Sound like ability. It has all the bells & whistles of a modern day beer, lively carbonation, thick malts, smooth blanket like caramel & a crisp finish at times.

This one is very drinkable, it has an annoying tendency to freeze your drinking arm into a repetitive up & down motion until the glass is empty, only then can you refrain from the masturbatory-like arm movements. Quaffable.

Described in the Brewpub Menu & on the Bottle Labels with the words “High Roller Red is exceptionally smooth, full-bodied amber ale. The caramel & toffee notes are established by a select blend of domestic & imported malted barley. The complex malt character is balanced by the fruity tones of our house yeast”

After the rather confusing ‘Jackpot Pale Ale’ which is strangely described as an ‘India Pale Ale’ debacle - I am beginning to wonder if some sick twisted f**k at Monte Carlo Brewpub is taking the piss with a Red colored Amber Ale that is certainly not the classic interpretation of an Amber Ale, nor a Red !!!

Still, that said, this is a very close second to the Silver State Stout & should be tried when visiting the Monte Carlo Brewpub, LV.

This is my favorite of the flight of beers at the casino. It was a clear amber with good head and retained a nice lace throughout. The aroma and taste of toffee and caramel captured my nose and tongue. The beer finishes slightly bitter which offset the sweet beginnings. The mouthfeel was medium and it left a creamy coating on my tongue. Very drinkable beer. I left the pub with a plastic cup full of beer to enjoy as I walked to the casino.
