16oz serving on-tap at The Tap Brew Pub.
Clear, dark red in colour. Thin head is off white. Some lacing down the sides.
Aroma is very malty and slightly sweet. Not very complex, but still appealing.
Taste is all malt. A nice roasted malt flavour appears at the swallow and fades away to virtually no aftertaste. There are undertones of sweetness and caramel. Again, not very complex, fairly simple, but enjoyable.
Medium bodied and well balanced. The mouthfeel is about what you would expect from a red or pale ale.
While this is a fairly decent offering, I don't think it really fits the style that they are claiming it to be. Personally I would call this beer an American Amber/Red Ale, however the description they give is "This ruby-coloured Irish Ale is named after..." Whatever you call it, this beer is smooth and easy to drink. The lack of an aftertaste doesn't give you much to think about, but it also encourages you to take another sip so you can get some more flavour going.
