Reviewed from notes. The appearance was a soft hazy burnt orange almost amber color with a thin wisp of a little white head. No lace. The aroma had some dried floral components with a super dried bready malt. The flavor added in some earthy hop spice and crisped up that bready malt to seem to play with a moderate herbal quality. Aftertaste was fully dry with a sticky bitterness. The finish was pretty bitter. The palate was roughly medium bodied with a decent sessionability about it. Moderate carbonation. ABV felt fine. Overall, what the heck is a Scottish IPA? I’m confused, but why does every nation think they need to do their own version of an IPA. Looking forward to the day of the Antarctica IPA. That’s what I’m really waiting for.

Bottled 2013/12/30... so def not very fresh, I'll ahve to take that into mind as I review.. I thought it was a hoppy scotch ale.
Super crazy carbonated, over carbonated and under attenuated as it has a ridiculous foamy head and it's not infected, they always seem to have an issue with attenuation, head fades at a med pace with lots of sticky lacing, semi clear but sediment laden honey orange color.
Nose smells like an English IPA, earthy herbal hops, woodsy and leather, bit grassy, mild fruitiness, with plenty of candy sweet malts, caramel and a big time toffee, nutty, chewy nougat, etc.
Taste brings more of the sweet malts, candy all over, chewy nougat, lots of caramel and toffee and nutty candy, big candy bar like, I can tell it was supposed to be sweet but the under attenuation let the yeast in the bottle keep going and it's at least tolerable now. Hops are there, although lighter, earthy herbal hops mostly, with a little grassy, mild woodsy forest floor earthy like, leather, etc, and piney too. Finish is spicy hop bitterness lingering, a little sticky sweet still, mild herbal earthy hop lingering, but fairly clean otherwise.
Mouth is med bod, little sticky syrupy, too much carbonation.
Overall I probably like it more now than I would have fresh, it seems like it would have been way too sweet, and the hops would have been too bitter and in your face earthy forest floor pine, but otherwise hits the nail on the head for an English IPA, so not too bad, but the malt profile is just not good.

Pours cloudy orange brown color with a massive 3 finger foamy light tan head that looked like it had pepper sprinkled on it and was so thick I ran my finger through it and it formed a canyon. It faded extremely slowly and left excellent foamy lacing. Looks were a 5 on the BA scale. Smells of skunky yeast, caramel, toffee and wet cardboard; a malty nose in every sense but not very exciting or dynamic. Tastes like it smells, basically all malt with roasted grains, skunky yeast, caramel, toffee, brown sugar and wet cardboard; maybe a hint of floral spices, but it really had no balance and limited flavor. Mouthfeel is medium to chewy, with a tart feel, average carbonation and a bready toffee finish. It was average to below average in every way except for it's stellar looks.

Overall: What I imagine a mix between a Scotch ale and an IPA would taste like. I found the bitterness on this one to be quite cutting at times. Despite that the sweetness is always present. Interesting concept, not sure if I would get it again though.

Overall: What I imagine a mix between a Scotch ale and an IPA would taste like. I found the bitterness on this one to be quite cutting at times. Despite that the sweetness is always present. Interesting concept, not sure if I would get it again though.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. No other notable dates or notes on the bottle. Sampled on February 16, 2014.
I have only seen Olde Burnside brews in growlers or on tap. So this was bottled and it poured a very milky yellow color with a moderate white head that sticks around. The head fades.
The aroma is not so much hopped as it is riddled with butterscotch and bready malts. Since this is an IPA any hops are way in the background.
Light-Medium body
The bready toasted malts kick in more so in the taste and there is a moderate bitterness playing up on the backside but nothing that would make me think this was an IPA. I know English IPA's are more reserved and America IPA"s tend to be very floral and bitter. Buit this had little to no hop character whatsoever.
