In New Brunswick your only choice for beer is New Brunswick Liquor / Alcool Nouveau-Brunswick.
Head Office and the warehouse complex is located in Fredericton. NB Liquor services the public and all restaurants, bars, taverns, clubs, etc. with 49 retail outlets owned and operated by NBL and 73 privately owned agency store outlets which are usually found in small rural communities. The agency store outlets are always connected with a convenience store. Locations of all the 122 government and privately owned outlets are easily found on the NBL web site. All brewpubs and micro-breweries work through NB Liquor for the distribution of their products. According to NB Liquor their "product portfolio is comprised of over 1700 products, 48% of which are wines, 31% are spirits, 10% are beers and 11% are other products, such as coolers and ready to drink products."
Interestingly, if you are willing to pay, NBL will bring almost anything. Their web site allows you to search for a product and it tells you all the outlets where you can find it and even how many bottles are currently on the shelves! If your store doesnt have a particular product they will transfer from another outlet for you at no extra charge. Unfortunately, top choices are very, very limited. The choices are also rather odd in my opinion. For example La fin du Monde is available but Paulaner is no longer carried (I'm down to my very last bottle). Never-the-less, service is generally very good, staff are friendly and helpful and many know their stuff. They just don't have much to work with - like product. The retail outlets are well laid out, clean, crisp, efficient, with walk-in cold rooms, and often with chilled wines, coolers, etc. The stores are always being upgraded.
There are very few American imports. The only actual US beers available here are Colt 45 in a lets-get-bombed 1.18L bottle and a six-pack of Miller Genuine Draft in 355ml bottles. There are a couple of other brands that are brewed under license by Molson, Labatts, et al. thus making them "Canadian". There is actually a noticeable difference in taste as they are brewed for local tastes: not enough to change any rating they might have, mind you. They would be brands like Coors Light and the Buds, Carlsburg and so on. Remember: if you are coming to New Brunswick the NBL is the ONLY place you will get bottled beer. Check out the NBL web site to see what you will be able to buy - the selection is very, very limited.
