19.2oz can into a pint glass. Canned 2/25/26, so 7 weeks old.

Decent looking beer, faintly hazy orange body, bright white head, light lacing early on. Aroma is quite fruity. On tasting, sweet, fruity, mostly non citrus, light burn, not much bitterness. Finish is warm.

Overall, inoffensive drink, certainly won't look for another, lacking in true ipa character.

It's good to see that the classic hop flavor that put American craft beer on the map is in the capable hands of Blackhorse brewers.

Pouring with a golden-orange appearance and laced with a medium hop haze, Blackhorse IPA floats a creamy white froth and a hop-tilted scent of citrus and pine that floats over a caramelized and toasted scent. Flavors of juicy malts bring a foundation of caramel, honey, toast and nuttiness seeming like granola on the early palate. Met with hops, the middle palate counters with orange peel, pink grapefruit and with more gentle hints of apricot and pineapple. Balanced toward the bitterness slightly, the IPA carries the balance of English IPA but with the pieces and parts of American IPA.

Medium bodied, flavorful and generally error free, the IPA is an all purpose, everyday pleasure to drink.

Enjoyed after a nice hike. Smooth, balanced, grapefruit with usual hoppy notes at the end. No sarong alcohol taste, considering the ABA, surprising. Definitely worth the buy.

Hazy yellow with two fingers of white head. The smell is of cardboard and skunk. The taste is of dry yellow grapefruit, with a hint of fruitiness. Moderate sticky body with alcohol presence. It leaves a grapefruit like bitterness on the tongue. I got this in Knoxville near Knoxville airport a few days ago, and I’m drinking it in Phuket Thailand, August 26, 2023.

19.2oz can. Poured out a clear, golden orange color with a large, off-white head of foam. It left sudsy trails of lace on the glass. It smelled of resinous pine, caramel and toffee. Sweet citrus taste with toasted caramel and a sharp, piney bitterness.

I am sharing a 19.2oz can of this beer with my bestie whilst in Kentucky for New Years 2022....it poured a clear golden with white head that is leaving a spotty lace. The scent had faint bitter hop notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with bitter hop flare throughout. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a decent beer.

Original review below in 2021, but now revised after tasting the beer on tap in 2026 at Mellow Mushroom Pizza, Pigeon Forge, TN.
The aroma and flavor flaws I complained about are not present in this sample. Overall, this is a decent, old-school West Coast IPA, but it is low on strength and intensity; closer to an APA than IPA.
------------------------
Tasted from a 12 oz bottle bought in Tennessee.

L - Medium gold color and fairly clear. Fluffy, long-lasting white head.

S - Yeasty and malty more than hoppy. Low butterscotch. Not a very good aroma combination for an IPA.

T- Hop character is muted and subordinate to the bready malt. Yeast note in the finish is very prominent.

F - Medium to thick body. Creamy, low carbonation. Moderate hops bitterness. Low alcohol presence.

O - This is an ok beer but has some flaws for an American IPA.

Yeah, here I am - drankin’ tha thang. Props to Senor Raul for bringing this one back from the other side of the country. Woot to that.

Anyway, this one is one of those “It is what it is” beers. Yeah, like a chicken wing when you’re hungry, ok, yeah, that dog will hunt. And hunt this beer does in average ways. A bit astringent, with a touch of honey at the end... All I know is that Raul is outta here.

See ya!

Initially, I thought this would be a good or decent IPA to no avail. Wrong. Horrible.
