The intense aromas and the complex flavours of the beer ‘Schaarbeekse Kriek’ are associated with the most authentic interpretation of the beer-style Oude Kriek. Schaarbeek Cherries are a very old variety of sour cherries belonging to the family which is the predecessor of all cultivated cherry varieties.

6 oz draft pour at Lures Bar & Grille in Crownsville, MD. This is one of the most unusual fruited lambics I've had; the cherry flavor is very deep, almost like a cherry cordial but without being boozy. Kind of like the cherry-filled chocolates that are always disappointing when you bite into them (at least, they are for me). Strong hint of Mozartkugel as well. Very odd flavor profile, and not entirely pleasant. Also, it was nearly flat - very little carbonation at all. Overall, a weird beer experience for sure.
Note: I tried this a second time a few weeks after it first went on (and then off for a while - I'm not sure why) but the beer seemed to be exactly the same. Strange.
