2013 vintage.
Read the only review that there was and had high hopes for this. His must have been on a 2007 bottle because my reaction has been completely different. The nose is just a sweet boozy mess. The taste is even worse. Incredibly sweet, even for a barleywine. Just too overpoweringly sweet to allow any room for flavor. The hops are very well balanced though. Hoppy for an english barleywine, but not as hoppy as an american barleywine. That said, the finish is pure hop bitterness and more sweet boozy mess.
Extremely glad my uncle brought me a bottle back from New Zealand, however there is no way I would ever try to get another one.

Pours a beautiful clear but dark ruby-red with a small creamy khaki head. Nose of cherry/berry, toffee, honey, peat, and alcohol. Plum and cherry liquor at first then accompanied by caramel malt, pine resin hops and more alcohol. Manuka honey comes in right at the end resulting in a semi-sweet aftertaste. One of the most amazing mouthfeels I've ever tasted; slightly creamy mouthfeel similar to a cask beer but also hints of carbonation. Think the Manuka honey might have something to do with all of this. Another very good beer from Pink Elephant that should be sipped slowy and appreciated.
