On-tap 1/3/2016 at Doherty’s East Ave Irish Pub in Pawtucket, RI, served in a tapered pint glass.
A: The beer is a dark golden brown color, with a large foamy off-white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick but spotty lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is faint but contains caramelized malts, honey, citrus and some hops.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel, honey and citrus. Then a hearty malt character comes in. The hops presence is very mild but brings some balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet
M: Smooth and a little crisp, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, mild kick, decent representation of style, there are definitely better alternatives within the style.

Clear amber with an impressive foamy display. Brewed with local honey and Cascade.
Smells like malt. General malty malt. As it warmed Home Port kinda smelled like a Tootsie Roll. I don't understand that.
Tastes bready with a lively black pepper hoppiness in back. Full mouthfull with an (at the time) odd tongue coating apres swallow. I'm assuming that's the honey now that I know it's in there. Tastes "fresh."
Despite their local presence I usually find Cape Ann to be mediocre at best. While not a far from that mark Home Port is a pretty solid but nothing special pale ale. I like it.
