The Pilsner was born in 1842 in the town of Pilsen, Bohemia. Using lightly malted grains, bottom fermenting yeasts, and a generous helping of the locally grown Saaz hops, the Pilsen brewmasters adapted English and German brewing techniques to pioneer a new beer style that has become a true classic. With our Bohemian Pilsner, we pay tribute to these men who strove for quality over all else. Na Zdravi!

A: crystal clear; medium gold in color; 1 finger white head that receded to a wispy cap; OK lacing;
S: grain; grass;
T: follows the nose from start to finish with the addition of lemon; mild to moderate bitterness at the end;
M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; lightly dry finish;
O: OK, but lacks the crispness and high carbonation that I expect in a pilsner;

I think that I picked this up during one of my many forays up to New England. I have a number of friends up there & it usually does not take much to get me to come up, especially for a weekend.
From the CAN: "Bohemian Lager"; "The Pilsner was born in 1842 in the town of Pilsen, Bohemia. The Crack! was not as loud as I expected, and upon peering in, I saw that it was actually a short-filled CAN! Boo hoo. A gentle Glug later & I had a brief finger of foamy, fizzy, bone-white head with limited retention. Color was Pale-Straw (SRM = 1 -2) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had both the honey-like sweetness of lager coupled with the soft grassiness of Saaz hops. Mouthfeel was soft, medium. The taste was sweeter than I would expect from the style, more akin to a German Pils. It was more malty sweet than grassy hoppy. That is not to suggest that I could not taste Saaz hops, but when they mention "a generous helping of the locally grown Saaz hops", I expect more than what I was getting. Finish was semi-dry, but still more sweet than I want in the style.

Poured from a 12oz. can into a Harpoon IPA stange glass.
The color is a cloudy orange with some slight yellowish highlights and a finger of foamy white head that draws back and leaves no lacing on the glass.
The smell is a slight tannic orange aroma with some wheat aroma that is light and slips into the background. There is a flowery aroma that sticks out in the nose and leads into a juicy fruit aroma. There is an earthy aroma that gives this beer a rooted aroma that is encompassing and inviting.
The taste is has a fruity flavor that is just teasing in the nose but comes out here to let touches of lemon, some slight grapefruit lays just at the edges and lets things meld into a bready flavor. There is a bit of hop bitterness that comes at the end and makes sure that this beer touches all the bases.
The feel of this beer is smooth is a medium body and is a really drinkable beer of a hot summer night, which is when I’m drinking this. There is a smooth feel that goes down easy and leaves a nice flavor as it goes. A crisp tease of corns and light grains comes out just slightly.

From the 12 fl. oz. can. Sampled on Aug. 10, 2015.
Slight hazy yellow pour under a lingering cream colored head. Probably a chill haze.
There are traditional German grainy malts on the nose with a grassy hop ester in the mix.
Light to medium body.
The taste tends to be more bitter than I expected with a mild malty flavor followed by a grassy and almost resiny finish.

Decent starting head but it settles to rim bubbles. Some spots on the glass. Dark straw color and clear.
The aroma is mild even for a pilsner. More pale malt than anything else.
The flavor starts sweet and creamy, very much like a kölsch. The hop is like black pepper but the malt comes through in the swallow. The aftertaste is light with just a bit of black pepper. The body is rich, particularly for a pils. Good carbonation.
