Enjoyed this offering at the brewery in Gloucester. Served from a 750 mL bottle (this beer was bottle conditioned for 6 months) into a snifter.
Appearance: Pours a hazy, brown, unpasteurized-apple cider-like color and leaves very little, if any, off-white head.
Smell: Wine flavors upfront, hints of grape, apple, strawberries. Very pleasant aroma, very intriguing.
Taste: Matches the smell pretty well - the time in the wine barrels had a huge influence on this (not surprising - 18 months is a long time!). A cider-like dry, appley finish with some green apple. Still has the refreshing notes of a saison.
Mouth-feel: Light to medium carbonation with a medium body and a dry finish.
Overall: I was very impressed with this offering. Tons of wine influence from the barrels, and it pairs really well with the delicate saison flavors of the base beer.
