I am sampling this brew with a dinner. The beer arrives cold in a pint glass. Surprised to get a pint of a higher abv brew. There is a minimal beige colored edge layer of head and the brew is dark chocolate colored and slightly hazy. Aroma is sweet caramel, dark fruit (plums), brown sugar, and some tangy yeast scents. First sip reveals an average body with gentle rolling carbonation. The texture is a little chewy, but still fairly easy to drink. The flavor is brown sugar and chocolate, molasses and dark fruit with no real hop profile to be found. I again get a tangy, tart yeast characteristic that is similar to the flavor of a flanders red, but definitely more in the background. Is this supposed to be there? I like sour brews, so I dont find this un appealing, but I am sure others would not like this taste. There is no alcohol heat even for 8% and it is a fairly easy drinker. They wont growler this one, so you can only try it at the pub. Just be ready for some tart notes.
