DATE: February 12, 2012... OCCASION: Better Call Saul watching with Shan--a long but good week... GLASSWARE: Duvel snifter... pours from a week-old, tightly-sealed grunt an massively dark body and a frothy, nearly single finger creamy beige head holds better on the second pour, but ultimately settles to a substantial ring... oatmeal, licorice, leather, grape, light lactose, and vanilla are all under a subdued blanket... a bit of plastic or waxy candle in the aroma as well... this rolls through the palate swiftly, a bit oily and slick, but not officious or cloying... extremely drinkable for a beer over 8% ABV... too smooth, almost... chocolate becomes the impressing ingredient, while the oats and sweet malts make this an enjoyable profile... roasted malts, licorice, and raisins build a strong secondary wave.... this is a weighty beer that grows in its strength and appreciability, becoming boozy and warming... one of the better offerings from BC...
