Copper colored with a low beige head and decent carbonation. Overpowering unpleasant diacetyl buttery aroma. Diacetyl dominates with some nutty malt character in the background. Light-medium bodied.
Certainly hope this was a bad batch ... wish I could try a good one based on reviews below.
May have originally been named "Golden Gate Original Ale".
Per Label: 14 Plato, 5 malts, and 4 hop varieties.
Per M.J. notes: Gold medal - 1995 GABF.

Its sad this brewery is no more..saw this beer at the cheapo grocery outlet.$2.99 a sixer..thought I would give it a go.
Very very attractive looking beer when poured from the brown 12 oz bottle deep red almost garnet colour when held to the light..nice creamy off white head.
Desp[ute sitting for at least a month on the floor , unrefridergated of some forlorn grocery store the aroma was very nice mostly malts but no off smells.
The tatse also is very nice..fruity and malty..with a semi-dry finish.
Very nice feeling in the mouth.
A most drinkable Amber..its sad this brewery is defunct..if this is anything to go by they made pretty good beer.

Poured a nice dark amber. The aroma of spices seem complex for this type of beer. The taste was of spices with a hint of pine nuts. A balance of hops and malt make this beer very pleasant and smooth! A very good brew, it was a happy suprise!

Very interesting variation on the style. Pours a nice amber color with extremely good head retention.. all the way to the bottom of the close. Aromas of spices, butter, and nuts. Balance is spot on with just enough hops to give a good bite to the dry finish. Flavors range from butterscotch to nuts. A darn good brew.
