After waiting about 5 minutes for the somewhat inept barkeep to pour this beer (at least a pint going into the drain in the process), I was handed an extremely dark beer with a head of such dense, creamy froth, I have never seen like it. What a great looking porter - I was totally fooled into thinking this was a stout. No light escapes its pull, and the head was unbelievable - literally the frothiest, creamiest, fluffiest stark white inch of stuff I have ever seen. It refused to go away and leaved totally opaque very white rings of lace with each sip. Never seen anything like it.
Hard to pull anything out of the scent except a few whiffs of butterscotch and oaty malt; A little minimal when just sniffing, but when you're going for a sip, the scent pounces and sets you up for the immediately following flavor...
Quite a nice porter indeed. Almost stoutlike in its qualities - a lazily calm espresso bean flavor caps caramel-bitter roasted malts. Definitely not smoked, but seriously rounded roasty flavors.
Mouthfeel was a little watered down, which I'll be nice enough to blame on the glass (which had just emerged from a washing, since normal practice at Brew It Up is the frosted glass), but otherwise very slick and creamy.
Very easy to drink, flavorful, zero alcohol prescence, and quite handsome.
