Listed on their website as an English style brown ale, I picked this up with a few other bottles in their mini-fridge to lug back to LA with me. The label states that it won the 2001 California Gold Medal.
I poured it into my pint glass. The color was a murky, brown with very little head. The aroma was nutty with a slight sweetness as well as a small detection of DMS. The taste had caramel qualities and a malt backbone. Again the DMS was evident, but slightly it did not detract terribly from the taste or aroma. The body was quite light and there was little to any notable alcohol presence. I would think this would fall somewhere between a nut brown and a mild. Since low session milds travel poorly, I think the taste was probably much better at the brewery on draft. In all, it was drinkable and had some wonderful flavors.
