When I was eating lunch here, I asked for this one on tap, but the server claimed it was being filtered. Missed it in it's outright freshest form by a hair! So I got a bomber from the retail cooler. Engine #2 is dubbed their original house ale.
It pours a copper color, clarity is so so considering I was told it was filtered. The head is modest with a retaining film that rests on top.
The aroma is well balanced, not a very hoppy pale from the smell of it. Caramel, vanilla, and grain about round it up.
The flavor is smooth, once again more on the malty side. Caramel, cherries, and a dash of spice lead into a very toasty bread finish. The bitterness is a bit subtle but has a presence throughout, seems of the Noble hop variety. A bit of lemon and orange pith are picked up in there towards the finish, which is grassy and a bit dry.
The feel is carbonation, hard to get away from it. It's very fizzy. The dryness from the finish makes it very easy to drink, mated with a fairly light, but not watery, body.
