Hofbräu Kaltenhausen "Oktoberbräu"

Notes: Clear golden/amber colored body beneath a head of densely creamy white foam. Very good head retention but limited lacing. The aroma is oddly earthy with grainy malt, and that follows into the flavor although it's also a touch floral and lightly spicy. The earthiness must be coming from the hops, and although it's OK I wonder if they used some old hops, or perhaps for some reason they spent too long in the kettle or fermenter. It has a median bitterness that balances it well, and it finishes with soft, lingering, spicy hops. The body is medium and it's gently crisp.
