Thank you Mentor for this bottle. Bottle number 1929 of 2000. Very interesting and unique beer.
Poured a shiny brown color. Almost had a polished look. Nearly flat in appearance. Nose is lots of unripe granny smith apples and rock candy. Also getting whiffs of the alcohol.
Flavor is strong of those sour apples. Sweetness breaks through all the sourness. Little bits of cherry too. Alcohol is wonderfully hidden behind all the sourness and I would never guess it is 14 percent ABV. Slightly dry mouthfeel but still light on the tongue. Sourness makes it heavy on the palate and a bit sticky. Much more drinkable than I thought after the first sip and quite interesting when I take it for what it is.

2004 release obtained from Liquor Max (Ft. Collins). Thanks to Crosling for holding this one until I could make it to Ft Collins to pick it up. Bottle #1875 of just 2000 produced. Pours a half-finger yellow-tan head that quickly settles to a persistent ring of fine bubbly fluff. Crystal clear light mahogeny with many slow streamers of fine bubbles. Smells caramel and sherry oxidation. Smells like a sun-greyed split-rail fence. Chocolate below the sherry
Tastes a bit sour apple, yet in races white grape sweet. Light and bright...not dark and brooding. Alcohol is a whisper and caramel is mild. Carbonation is fine and adds a champagne-like quality. Semi-dry finish has a cherry flavor and noticable sour. Light inthe mouth, but creamy md-thick on the tongue. In summary, this beer seems to be quite soured from oxidation.

750ml bottle from Mentor as part of BIF 33/The Race - Team Spring. Thanks for the opportunity. Gold foil, bottle #1870 of 2000, and looks hand-signed by the brewers, if that floats yours boat.
Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1/2" tan head above the clear orangey copper brew. Head is down to an uneven layer of bubbles pretty quick, but lacing is slow to recede. Aroma is heavy on the sweet malts, and plenty of dark fruit in there as well, coupled with alcohol fumes. Taste is moderate grains upfront, quickly overcome by heavy dark fruits, which themselves give way to an overwhelming tartness that conquers all and dominates the rest, except for the heat in the back of the mouth and down the throat. Mouthfeel and drinkability are pretty diminished by the out-of-place sour. It would seem a couple years wasn't nice to this brew, but hard to tell with no other reviews to compare.
