Imperial RyePA is not an officially sanctioned beer style, so we got a kick out of tweaking this one. We started with a simple malt bill, with 25% rye for a little spice and a crisp finish. Simcoe highlights the hop profile, adding a nice earthy bitterness that really shines against the malt backdrop. Imperials are meant to be bigger beers, and Knob Hill follows suit with a 9% ABV, 70 IBUs, and plenty of tasty character.

12 oz. Bottle
Bottled: June First/Second Week
Pours a cloudy dark golden orangy color, very nice carbonation, with a pretty nice thick/creamy one-finger off-white head, which leaves some pretty nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is hoppy, some maltyness, nice citrus, rye. The taste is pretty nice, hoppy, malty, citrusy, with some nice rye bitterness. Medium body, ABV hidden pretty welll, with a very nice dry/bitter finish. Overall, this is a pretty tasty brew.

12 oz bottled, looks like it's dated June? Pours hazy reddish gold with a small creamy off white head that goes to a thin film that leaves some lacing.
The aroma is subdued - some rye malt and fruit.
The flavor is sweet bready caramel rye malt with some fruit and light spicy hops and a bit of a medicinal alcohol finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with low carbonation.
Overall, tastes a bit off. Looks like an old bottle, but I just bought it and think it was new to the store.

this is somewhat of an interesting beer, big and boozy, but also kind of easy drinking, a weird thing to have in the same beer. the rye is flavorful here, but maybe not as texture interesting or harsh as it can sometimes be, which means a smoother, groovier overall beer that still has plenty of the rye spice flavor. a nice mix of grains though, some sweet caramel barley notes in here too, breakfasty and bready, substantial. the hops are strong and more bitter than flavorful, which puts it more in the pale than ipa range, but its nice either way, and all the bitterness is almost needed to balance the sweetness from the malt. for some reason i thought this was barrel aged, but there is no sign at all of that in the flavor. freshness is key here, if the hops fade out, theres not much left for balance. fuller bodied, pretty copper color, mostly clear, thin lacing, plenty of bubbles. it has been quite a while since i have had a new beer from bristol, and its nice too see them pushing with something like this. classic rye malt flavor here and good bittering hops. nice for fall.

On tap at the brewery.
Honey hued; rings of lacing along the glass. Caramel and booze on the nose. Same flavor notes as with the smell along with oak and some mild hop bitterness. Heavy body; viscous.
Full-flavored with a thick, chewy quality; boozy yet balanced. A very fine RyePA...

Imperial Rye IPA. Smooth with a hint of sweetness on the malt.
