As a true collaboration with the local coffee gurus at Loyal Coffee, we wanted this beer to showcase the subtle flavors of both the coffee and the beer. The result? This is not your average chock full o’ roast coffee beer. This is a masterpiece of nuance, with banana/clove notes from the hefeweizen yeast, fruity notes from Loyal’s Ethiopian coffee, and hints of cherry and tobacco from an addition of Cascara after the brew. Altogether, a delicious, medium-bodied wheat beer with sublime coffee undertones and a sessionable ABV--just the thing for fall.

Series: Brewhouse
Specialty Malts: Munich, Wheat
Hops: Perle, Hallertau Mittlefruh

Pairing: A flannel and a contemplative afternoon on the porch.

Beautiful clear yet dark brown body sporting a thick and creamy head. Lovely aroma of cocoa, mild chocolate, and a hint of mocha. Excellent flavor combination of sweet, toasty malt and wheat with a slowly developing bit of light coffee; very low-key phenols with clove and banana tones. Medium body; warm and smooth; bright and crisp with a semi-sweet feel throughout.

All in all, this local offering is quite the taste treat. It neatly delivers classic German dunkelweizen flavors while the coffee component is rather elegantly subdued.
