Poured into a tulip.

I smell caramel malts, some dark fruit notes and a little candi sugar like sweetness.

Flavor is reminicent of a caramel covered apple without cloying sweetness. Belgian-like yeast profile with fruit notes like dates and apple. Caramel syrup like feel lingers on the finish.

Mouthfeel and a bit slick. Quite drinkable for the strength and the ABV sneaks up on you.

A nice sipper. Can't say I've had too many double vienna lagers, but this one works. Drinks more like a Belgian strong ale. Enjoyable.

Starts in a 12 oz. stemmed pilsner glass with a single finger of head. This settles to rim bubbles but still leaves ample web lace. Light copper color. Clear.

Lots toasted malt (crystal). Nearly no hop--true to style. I do not detect any alcohol despite the 9.0% abv.

This is a very smooth lager. The high alcohol is more noticeable here but still in the background. Lots of white bread toast on the tongue. The swallow is well balanced with enough peppery hop and alcohol to create interest. Very full bodied for a lager.

Worth seeking out. I found this one at Bulowski's in Boston
