Cellar Dweller Barrel-Aged Imperial Amber Coffee Stout
It lurks in the cellar, dwelling in the shadows, keeping you up at night. It is the "Cellar Dweller," inspired by the tales of ghosts lurking our halls. This behemoth was brewed with Colombian coffee from our friends at Cup to Cup Cafe. It then dwelt in Makers Mark bourbon barrels for nearly seven months before we added a hefty dose of cocoa nibs. Pouring a counterintuitive copper as opposed to an inky black, this mind-bending brew has silky smooth notes of malt, rich coffee, and dark chocolate, all in bewitching balance.

Had Cellar Dweller poured from 25.4-oz. bomber, label stamped bottled on "OCT 27 2020," into snifter.
Pours amber with clarity (murky whiskey-gold from sediment in final pour), and 1/2-finger light-tan head, which quickly dissipates to a thin ring, but leaves some nice sketchy Belgian lace. Aroma fruity to begin, then growing chocolate and coffee, but no bourbon. Begins with nice carbonation, over smooth, mild malt, which soon gives way to a little sour funk--infected barrel?--but no bourbon, and then a fruity, mild coffee finish, with little alcohol evident.
A nice-looking amber ale, it is stunning that Cellar Dweller was released as a stout, even an "Amber Stout." Except for the sourness, however, it is not unfavorably reminiscent of Sixpoint C.R.E.A.M.
