Not too bad, but pretty thin and diluted for a stout. fairly tasty and easy to drink though. Sweet caramel and light roasted flavours, pretty flat however. I'd probably go for Lion Stout over this one, but i still found this averagbly (is that a word?) drinkable, and would probably drink it over the various tropical lagers that i'd be likely to find in Sri Lanka.

im giving this brew a better than average score simply for the fact its a very unique stout. its an aquired taste for sure, but certainly adds its own character to the genre and i have a lot of respect for that. apart from any bias i may have its still a reasonable beer.

has the classic dark stout appearance tho it manages some ruby colored panes and a rich deep head and some decent bubble action that doesnt put itself out of place as a stout. you have to like licorice to like this beer thats for sure. has choclate and coffee notes, but screams licorice on the nose. is nice and roasted with all the basic characteristics of any stout, but like chocolate stouts, it seems like these fellows have added copious amounts of dutch licorice to the vats and thats what really jumps out. robust, thick and oily in texture, its not going to appeal to everyone, but if you like licorice, youll really like this one. if they called this licorice stout, not only would it be a new frontier for stouts, but theyd be really setting themselves up as a great beer for those who like that kind if flavor. has slightly salty aspects, but still very smooth and very drinkable in itself. its quite strong in ABV for a stout but this really doesnt come to the forefront till later. certainly isnt reflected in the taste or feel of the beer.

this is a beer youll either love or hate. ive taken a liking to it over the last 12 months, and tho i havent seen it for a while, as soon as i do ill be getting it again. like reacquainting with an old friend. a licorice lovers beer all the way.
