On cask at the Monk's Table for Barrel Bragging Rights, into a sampler tulip. Collaboration between Black Oak and Josh Rubin of the Toronto Star.
Brownish burgundy with light bubbles as a head, unfiltered. Nose of grapes, dark fruits, figs, hints of alcohol disguised quite well by sweet malt. Really stands out all around within the style. Taste has chocolate leading off, with some lightly toasted dark breads, more sweet malts, dark fruits, grape and ripe plums particularly. Fruity alcohol into the finish. Great carbonation and cask suits this exceptionally well. Semi-full mouthfeel. A surprisingly excellent doppelbock, and although not a ton of barrel flavour, it certainly aided the mouthfeel. My highlight of the evening, and ultimately the winner.
