Its appearance was a clear mahogany brown. Effervescent bubbles present. 1 finger head with no lasting power.

It had a slight metallic smell. Malt was detected, albeit very subtle. Faint aroma of hops, grains.

The taste was a little metallic up front. Hops were faint at best. Not very bitter. Buttery taste throughout. Very mild malt, almost like a malt liquor. Nothing else was detected.

Mouth feel was bubbly. Carbonation was high. Light beer as far as mouth feel.

There really isn't much to say about this beer. Not the best beer produced by the Brits. Much akin to Newcastle, which I'm not a fan of. Very light beer that goes down easy. Eeh, okay at best.

Orange brown color with a fairly thick head that leaves little lacing. Clear, nice look for a bitter. Nose is malty, not sweet as much as toasted, with the scent of brew salts. The hops are herbal in nature, but set back - the malts are up front, with a salty grain flavor. A little too chemical for me, and in general lacking in body and interesting flavors. Caramel and butter toffee, tea leaf note in the dry finish. Balance is there, body is light but drinkable, but this is fairly boring and underwhelming all around.

brown 500ml bottle, best before 27 Jan 2012, poured into a UK pint straight sleeve glass on 15 June 2011.

Good looking beer, amber/chestnut brown, clean and clear. A full lightly tanned head sat proudly on top.

The back label mentions dark Guyana sugar as an ingrediant and the beer did give off a semi-sweet molasses aroma. Certainly more malty in the smells than any hop content.

The taste like the smell is more malt than hops, but the Northdown hop in the brew does appear, as a bitterness arrives towards the end when the mouth begins to dry after each sip.

Not bad at all, the 4.2%ABV sits well within the brew and it is fairly well balanced.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Jan 2012. This is a resurrection of a classic Tetley ale by Carlsberg, to capitalise on the iconic branding (despite the fact that they are closing the original Leeds brewery).

Poured into a Guinness pint glass. A coppery-orange colour with medium carbonation. Yields a small off-white head of frothy foam that lasts for a minute or two before subsiding. An insubstantial aroma of malt with a hint of roasted grain and a dry solventy note.

Tastes of caramel malt with a dry bitter finish. Mild roasted notes, hints of grain, butter and a stewed hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, leaving the palate rather dry. Stewed leaf aftertaste.

Overall, a fairly mediocre ale. Well balanced, but the flavour is bland and dull. Perhaps this is to be expected from Tetley's; none of their output has ever impressed me. Give it a miss....
