Light amber colour with rapidly dissipating head. Smells of pine, lemon and raisins. The taste is that of a rather fruity bitter rather than anything particularly Christmassy, but then again I don't celebrate Christmas so I'm rather ashamed to be drinking such a beer on Christmas Day anyway. Fruity to start then nice an dpiney with some biscuity backing for a while. Actually surprisingly good even if the packaging is lsightlymisleading.

bought from ASDA (Walmart UK) at Metrocentre, Gateshead
500ml bottle, tried 7th Dec 2015

Look - amber/copper in colour and crystal clear with no visible effervescing in glass.
has a nice foamy head

Smell - slight citrus smell of hops, large pine nut smell

Mouthfeel - moderate feel, slightly dry and has a bite of slight carbonation to the feel

Taste - Bitter tasting without being floral, roasted burnt flavour prominent, with a slight dry grapefruit tang. Has a fruity, even soapy aftertaste

Overall - an average bitter that has a picture of rudolph on the bottle to market is as something wintery, but is a typical English bitter. Not exciting me.

500ml bottle from Home Bargains, Glasgow (£1.50):<br>
Not a bad effort from Thwaites, a fruity and definitely drinkable offering that went down fairly easily without really standing out. I'm not really sure what makes this one a Christmas beer other than the name of it because there wasn't much in the way of spice or dark fruits, it was a fairly traditional tasting English bitter but a good one nonetheless; not one I'm likely to go back to but it was worth picking up anyway.

Appearance - Lightly fizzing pale amber, even straw like in colour. Creamy off white head of a single finger in height.

Smell - actually rather piney and hoppy in aroma but it is not particularly well balanced in aroma terms and causes an unpleasant catch in the back of the nasal cavity.

Taste - Some very mild malt flavour but this is hard to detect behind the piney hop front so the balance is again not quite right. Having said that this beer is pleasing to drink and the pine flavour works well.

MF - Light linger providing a slightly dry finish. All in all the mouth feel of this one is a little dull.

Overall - simple and straight forward this beer does nothing wrong but it is not the most interesting in the style you will ever come across. Having said that come next winter I will grab a few bottles and enjoy with a good cheese board or if I find a couple reduced in January this year I'll got those and enjoy with a fondue.

A 500ml bottle with a BB of Nov 2014. Picked up recently from a B&M store. The label calls it magically festive - with a name like that it should be magically cheesy....

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A clear orange-amber colour with medium carbonation. Forms a large head of creamy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before reducing to a surface layer. Some lacing. Aroma of mild fruity hops with hints of citrus, white grapes and grass/hay, underpinned by subtle caramel malt and faint ale yeast. Not very seasonal but quite nice.

Tastes of fruity aromatic hops with a mild finish. Notes of light grapefruit, citrus, white grape, grass/hay, caramel malt, ale yeast and faint stewed hops. A subtle and slightly spicy bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with pleasant carbonation and decent body. Fruity hop oils tantalise the palate. An aftertaste of aromatic hops, citrus and mild malt.

This brew is actually pretty good, though not terribly festive in character. Looks OK, while the aroma and flavour possess a pleasantly fruity hoppiness. Decent body. Tasty and goes down quite nicely. Worth a punt if you come across it.
