Tasted by a pint at the Olde Queens Head, a Thwaites' pub close to Sheffield Railway Station, in late March 2007. Served by a sparkler-fitted hand pump.
A: bright amber hue with low carbonation; the creamy and tight white froth retains its texture very well.
S: the assertive limey & grapefruity aroma is backed by a firm malt backbone that is also buttery & creamy. Lively, but not quite complex on the nose.
T: an effervescent flow of juicy pale malts expands fast on the palate, followed closely by a mixed hop-dominated flavour slightly corn-ish, apple-ish, lightly tea-ish, plus Goldings zesty-citrusness and a very soothing spicy bitterness as in Bramling Cross, against a consistently aromatic malt backdrop.
M&D: smooth & light on the texture, this ale has shown an impressive balance b/w juicy malts and various hops. A reasonably complex and tasty hoppy Pale Ale that is befitting to celebrate the brewerys 200th anniversary! Amongst the few Thwaites draught ales that Ive got a chance to taste, this one perhaps scores the highest so far.
