Bottle conditioned for M&S. Gold indeed. Clear with a thin head.
Light English hops on the nose with a touch of caramel malt.
Taste reflects the aroma. Slight metallic edge. Bitter completion. Good balance.
Low carbonation even for bottle conditioning. Light body.
Summer beer. The added yeast has not done it's job.

I've tried a few times to get 'English Golden Ale' added as a Style but it never has been. Curious as UK beers competitions do consider it a stand-alone category and the style is common enough in the shops. So, I have added this as an English Pale Ale as IIRC that is perhaps the closest other style to an EGA.
L- Quite a rich golden colour, clear, but pours with the tiniest whisp of surface bubbles I've seen in a very long time - the complete lack of head is unusual. Nice colour/CO2 is lacking.
S- Very mild, just some grains for me.
T- Notably hoppy with a materially dry edge into the finish. The flavour has too much of a challenge penetrating the wall of dry hops, I get some mild bready grains.
F- There is minor carbonation in the mouth, but much less than expected, it might be I've a bottle that's not quite as intended - IDK.
O- A bright and well hopped flavour (trad, not modern/hipster), so pretty refreshing. The taste seems quite lacking depth to me, I don't pin down a real identity or reason to buy it again. The carbonation of this bottle (in my usual and reliable tasting glass) seems largely absent and I'm unsure if that is by design, it seems unlikely so for the record I give the BBE and batch code... just in case someone from the brewery passes by.
Bought from Marks&Spencer, London, W8 yesterday. 500ml bottle £2.20 BBE: 12/2021. Batch: [not entirely clear] SL20-155.
