The beer that opened my interest in Double Brown ales. We need more of those still. Funny how tastes change. I've had this one again with a long break and it is thinner than I remember. Lowering slightly on the smell rating, and I've had thicker darker stoutier double browns sense that I would prefer, but this still beats most all standard brown ales I've experienced to date.

I had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at the brewery.
Appearance: medium brown hue with a little bit of haze and a thin layer of frothy tan foam.
Smell: sweetish and toasty with a bit of caramel character. A solid brown.
Taste: bready, a bit sweet and a bit toasty. Not bad at all.
Mouthfeel: medium rich body with a good carbonation and a chewy creaminess. Quite good.
Overall: I would not make this an everyday beer, but for a double brown it really delivers. I like the fact that the alcohol is not too hot at all.

Quite an enthusiastic big foam on the dark amber brown brew in the Bons Voeux chalice. I can't seem to get much in the way of aromatics. I keep thinking of stewed Dried peaches, but instead of tangy it's both sweet and bitter.
Massive sugary taste with a fruity and buttery overtones. I can't disagree with the hreb review below. This tastes rusty and seriously like sweet Vermouth, even to the bitter herbal edge. But not as good. This is some kind of fruit compote. Canned peaches and aspirin. I think a double Brown should be plenty malty but not this sweet. It's just plain syrupy. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Elizabeth Station in Bellingham.

22oz bottle served in a curved stout glass. Beer pours thick brown in color, but reveals a brilliant red hue when held up to the light, and is not quite clear. Big soda bubbles rush through the beer in the glass. Aroma is slightly fruity and also sour (raisins, prunes). The flavor also strikes me initially as quite sour, but my palate quickly acclimates. What's going on here are a bunch of really rich fruit flavors which I'd find at home in barleywine more so than a brown ale. There's nothing toasty or nutty here at all. Instead, there's prunes and apricots. Big on residual malt flavor, without too much hop bitterness at all. Double brown ale could have gone South in a variety of ways, but this beer avoids being chalky, bitter, overly gassed, and shows no sign of alcohol burn. A real surprise from Snoqualmie.

Saw the name and I had no choice but to buy it! Solid double brown.
