Oct. 2016: Cask 1/3 pint, gravity dispense, at the 16th Twickenham Beer & Cider Festival. Dark ruby to black colour, beige head. Moderate aroma, roast malts. Moderate roast malts in the flavour too, only a slight fruitiness.

21st April 2012: opening of the refurbished ‘Elephant and Castle’ in Dawley, Shropshire. Hand pulled pint: ruby red/brown body, the head well formed but thin was an off-white/cream colour.
Nose is a roasted malty molasses mix with traces of both coffee and chocolate in the sweetness.
The taste was also all malts: caramel and coffee flavours blending together, the coffee preventing it becoming too sweet. Thought it might have a stronger feel to it’s flavours but the mix works nicely even if it isn’t heavy or rich.

Tasted by half-pint at the Ealing beerfest., 11/05/06, gravity dispensed.
A: very dark brown, looking settled as a pot of ink... some fluffy traces of beer head on the top.
S: a lovely aroma of Chinese herb-jelly (Mesona chinensis Benth) springs to mind~~ plus caramel+black sugar, and a little roasty edge--overall, the prevalent maltiness is also aromatic and very inviting for a low-gravity Mild.
T: a dry, very dry, palate upfront, followed by a moderate input of dark/roast malts laced with lighter hints of dark fruits; leading to a rather clean finish with a flat-textured herbal bitterness expanding all over the place, leaving my tastebuds crying for yet another sip~~
M&D: very light-bodied and lively-textured, despite the static outlook; not very complex but it manages to be quaffable and thirst-provoking, with all the help from the dryish bitterness in the very end. A session Mild!
