Tasted by a half pint at the Devonshire Cat, Sheffield, on 16/04/2007. Served by a sparkler-fitted hand pump.
A: reddish amber in colour, coming with a thin but creamy off-white head that leaves plenty of tiny bubbles on the walls of the glass, on top of low level fizziness.
S: burned sugar abounds, on top of a vague aroma consisting of cream, toffee, etc.... predominantly malty on the aroma overall, and slightly alcoholic as well. I suspect the cask's consition is not ideal.
T: an intriguing flavour consisting of peanuts, butter, and plum-skin comes with slightly tangy & zesty hop bitterness at the back... lots of sweet orangey and jammy fruits seem to emerge from the mixture of malts, while the dryish, nutty bitter undertone just lingers with certain "persistence".
M&D: slightly less lively than ideal, but the body seems to hold up intact until the end. Overall, this is a fair bitter featuring matls and a rather belated entry of hop bitterness. It could taste better if served fresher, I think.
